When checking Oil On the new Ram I-6 where exactly is full on the gauge? Is it at the very top where the red mark begins? Is it at where at the lowest point of red mark stops at the full mark of the gauge begins to end the red mark? From very beginning to end on the gauge, is that one quart? The owner's manual tells you all about where the gauge is and to expect the motor to use some oil during break in, but does not explain how to read the gauge. It does not explain the red marks at full and end of the gauge at all. Leaving a complete mystery to know what usage has taken place from gauge measurements as to where should you add oil or how much?LOL.

Not surprised, not having a dipstick has to be one of the dumbest things manufactures have done.

Well it's not so bad being dumb for what they did....but at least tell us how to read their dumb idea would help some...lol.

Think I read the bottom bar is down a quart so each tick mark is 1/4 quart. Max is the last line before the final red section of the guage.

Thank you. Thank now makes sense why the red line at the top and bottom of the gauge. Do not go into the red line and if you do while adding oil do not allow oil very far at all into the red line, or you are too high on oil level. Same when and if you allow yours to go low on oil before adding to long before you add do not allow very far in red part at all go get oil for it.....GOT IT! Assuming I have this understood correctly.

I just completed my first oil change last evening, and have to admit I hadn’t even looked at the oil level gauge prior. After putting in 7.5qts, my oil level is right at the red mark. Is the consensus that this is okay, but any more would be too much? I can drop a bit from the Fumoto Valve if needed…

Curious on the oil level question

Would you share more info on which size Fumoto drain valve fits our Hurricane pan?

Hey Connor, they have a couple of options and they’re laid out pretty well on their website. Although, they had our engine listed as 3.0 V6 ;)

I chose the one in the picture below. It’s straight rather than the angled version. P/N F106S. I went this route because there is direct access to the bottom of the pan with this engine. I had an angled on my 2020 Ram because the seat bar was directly in line with the drain plug. You could go either way depending on your preference.

Make sure to grab a hose and connector for it. Pretty slick to just attach a drain hose to the valve and drop oil directly into your pan without worrying about splashing!

I will say when my truck was delivered one of the first things I looked at was oil level and it was right at where yours shows. When I had my oil change done @ around 1200 miles, the dealer filled it back to that same level, right at the red line.

That is awesome and I appreciate it!

Thanks! That’s reassuring!

I hope everyone knows the process for getting a current oil level reading…it’s not as simple as “add oil, check electronic gage on dash”.

The level is only read by the electronic gage on occasion, and only if certain conditions are met. Or, you can force an update/refresh of the oil level gage. How to do it is outlined in the electronic manual in the Ram app.

Oh how I miss the old-fashioned dip stick!

I’m probably more offended by a digital manual than I am of lack of dipstick 😂

The manual is a bit vague, here. It says to leave the vehicle in the ON state, but not running, for approximately 4mins to update the oil level…. Which, who does that as a normal process? Lord knows I don’t need another avenue towards killing my batteries!

It also says it may occasionally update in the OFF position. Ha! So, maybe my level is already updated, or maybe not. Can’t be sure.
