Is it possible? I am sure it is too new to have anything yet but I just feel this bad ass truck, thats my biggest complaint

I think a lot of the perceived turbo lag is actually throttle lag and that can be assisted with a pedal commander (or similar mod).

Drive by wire definitely affects this on many vehicles (Porsche Macan is one of the worst)

Regardless of the throttle response, turbos still have to spool up as exhaust does. This takes a little bit of time. The only answer I know of involves something other than turbos. Either a supercharger or the old Kompressor thing that uses compressed air.

Do the butterfly exhaust valves have anything to do with the turbo lag if forced permanently open? Aren't they used for sound, but also for back pressure to allow turbos to build up spool faster? I need to know cuz I was gonna force them to always stay open OR completely remove them...but now I'm second guessing myself.

My assumption is the valves are cold start noise and emissions, I imagine they help heat up the cats quicker(just a guess based on the world seeming to revolve around emissions). I dont have a picture but with the valves closed the exhaust diameter is extremely small, I was surprised. Even with the valves open i have to imagine there's a little performance lost.

Less back pressure will spool the turbos faster

I heard if you're driving in sport mode there much less turbo lag. This true?
In my opinion, yes. Sport mode, or even just sport transmission, keeps RPM’s higher for much quicker power. I’ve set up my custom drive mode to sport transmission and suspension for everyday driving. Feels way more responsive in my opinion than just auto.

Nature of turbos is that there is some lag. But like others have said, sport mode keeps rpm’s high and the lag is almost non existent in sports mode.

Man, I love this forum! While I’m not an idiot when it comes to cars, I’m definitely no expert. Yes I used to change my own oil in my 86’ Shelby Charger (speaking of turbo - the ol 2.2L turbo in that car was…well, good, not great, but fun).
But am super excited to finally get my RHO once SHAP decides to finally make, I mean assemble it. So I love the car banter that goes deeper than I know- keep it up! You guys rock!

To me it feels like it’s the transmission that’s laggy to downshift rather than turbo lag.

^^^^ This!! Since installing my pedal commander it has vastly improved the response and sensation. Now if Im full throttle, you can feel some of the lag but just part throttle, around town kind of things, the commander really eliminated that dead space feeling, at least to me.

I think one of the best examples is if I was at a stoplight, and I was going to race somebody and when the light turns green, smash the gas pedal, it’s going to take a good second to get up to speed, I would love to eliminate that so I might have to try the pedal commander. I am using the JB4 and I love it, but I want to really improve getting off the line.

You have to brake boost or use launch mode in that scenario.

Agreed, the "pedal commander" is only going to help with part throttle response/feeling, all it's doing is openi g the throttle body more at lower pedal input, it won't make a difference smashing it to full throttle, or with spool from a stop

Yeah again it’s literally the nature of turbos. They need to spool and produce boost. The twin turbos on the hurricane are actually pretty damn good. I came from the Cummins and you could literally count to 3 before the motor would start to wake up.
I also had/have multiple twin turbo cars including McLaren, Nissan GTR, 911 turbo…they ALL have some degree of turbo lag.

The only way to reduce it would be to setup an anti-lag tune type setup (for racing), launch control it, go with smaller turbos, or if they introduce a future hybrid type setup with an electric motor spooling the turbos.

I never drove one but would be curious if the SO hurricane has less perceived lag because of the smaller turbo design.

Just talking out loud since these are some serious changes that would need to be done. Pedal commander is probably the answer for most since it’ll feel much livelier.

I don't know about the 6 banger, but the active exhaust valves had and has no effect other than sounding good on the Hellcat.

I have had many Rams.....that jerking on down shifts is the 392 gear pushing back which is awesome when you're pulling over 5000 Lbs.

When I owned my Raptor, I had a stage 2 tune with new intercooler, intake, and boost tubes. It had minimal turbo lag. Almost felt like a torquey N/A motor. When talking with the tuner who custom tuned hundreds if not thousands of Raptors, the upgraded boost tubes are what he said really helped that low end torque curve and decrease in turbo lag.
I doubt such parts exists for the RHO yet. But if someone does come out with upgraded boost tubes then I think that will be the ticket. Of course a tune will be required.

Has anyone tried a pedal Monster for lag? Or is this just a ploy to soak for more $$ with a Pedal Monster?

You have to brake boost or use launch mode in that scenario.
Is the Pedal Monster any better than the Pedal Commander, with the monster having the reverse action to disable when in reverse?
