I currently live in Oklahoma, where it occasionally drops below 0 degrees (maybe once a year on average). My truck is garaged, so it rarely gets below freezing in my garage. Would it still be beneficial to add the engine block heater option to keep the block warm in the mornings? I could even just use it on days that are below 10 degrees outside, or something like that. It's such an inexpensive option that I'm wondering if I should consider adding it.

Block heaters are 'USUALLY' used in areas that get well below 32/0 and stay well below it for days if not weeks.

But it isn't expensive, so go for it.

I got one. It gets below freezing in Colorado but I garage my vehicles.. I figured if I ever sell it to a state that actually uses them it might be an easier sell.. installing after market will cost 5x more to add later.

Good point, might be good for someone in the future. I garage mine too, but the garage is not insulated and does get down into the 20s.

If I order the truck with the option installed, is it as easy as hooking up the cord to the engine bay and plugging in the other end into hte wall? In other words, does the plug stay installed all the time? I don't want any part of having to crawl under the truck to stick the plug in each time I want to use it.

The plug stays installed all of the time.

The online owner's manual states that the engine block heater cord is routed under the hood on the passenger side of the vehicle next to the engine coolant reservoir.

Yep simple as that, I even thought about having a timer on the extension cord to turn on a couple hours before heading out in the morning so it’s not running all evening and night.

for $95 you are asking about this? LOL just do it it

Yeah I'm going to! I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to crawl under the truck to use it - if that was the case I was going to save the cash!

I live in OK also. Garage both my trucks. If you want to get an idea on how the cord will sit, look up block heater for the 2500/3500 trucks and that will show you were the cord sits. It is usually on the front inside the grill opening somewhere wrapped up around the the fog light wiring harness.
