I owned a gen 3 raptor and changed to an open air box from AFE and the turbos could be heard immediately after the install. On the Rho even though its an open air box I don’t hear the turbos, does anyone have ideas how to bring out the sound?

Hearing aids, stereo and heating/cooling off or just remove firewall.

Ram knocked the sound deadening out of the park, you can pick the park clean and you'll definitely hear more.
 
I believe their are sound deadoning parts in the OEM intake tubing. Aftermarket intake options should allow for more turbo spooly sounds

When you say open air box, does that mean the the turbo is sucking air from the engine bay?

On the RHO there is no cover to the air filter box like on most vehicles, usually you see this when you buy aftermarket air filter intakes. The air is fed from the hood scoop. When I installed a similar filter setup (open) on the Raptor I immediately could hear the turbos. I was thinking the stock rho filter maybe just a bit more restrictive than the ones you buy aftermarket and that is why you can't hear it.

Oh, okay I see what you meant. Usually when I hear someone say "open" filter, I picture the air filter without a intake box sucking in air from the engine bay.

Yes, the RHO filter is extremely restrictive compared to the aftermarket options BUT it's meant to filter out most debris when off loading.

I'm making a much less restrictive one for street use, utilizing the oem air box.

better off leaving it as is, sucking in hot engine bay air will just raise IATs. If you're looking for noise, removing the stock intake ducting for metal(like the thread shared above) or eventually an aftermarket intake(don't look for hp gains) will give you more noise

I'm not removing any of the original duct work or air box. I'm just swapping out the original air filter for a less restrictive one.

Before you do that I suggest you take a clean paper towel and wipe the inside of the throttle bore after 3 or 4 thousand miles. Save that paper towel. Then put your alternative air filter in. Run it the same number of miles as your previous test. Take a new paper towel and wipe the inside of the throttle bore again and compare the two towels. You may want to rethink your decision at that time and put the factory filter back in. Hopefully you saved it.

When you say your making one, do you manufacture filters?

In my 2018 raptor there were plastic silencers in the intake that were designed to quiet down the turbo spooling sound, wondering if we have those too in the intake?
 
I want to hear the spooling sound because it sounds cool, but honestly I installed an intake and Borla cat back on my Ram Rebel and noticed a more responsive throttle, and on the Raptor I noticed the Turbo sound and a more responsive throttle, so for me I think it could achieve the same thing with the RHO. I am also waiting for Corsa to release their cat back system as well.

I’m not too worried about that. I’ll swap to the OEM filter for trail runs and use the less restrictive one for street driving. City driving typically has fewer particulates than hitting the trails, so filtration is less of a concern for me. What worries me more is EGR and carbon buildup.

Yes, we have them on our trucks. I removed it, there's a thread regarding this topic.
 
When you say your making one, do you manufacture filters?

Someday, I hope to be able to make my own filters. To clarify, I’m currently working on an adapter that lets you run any brand of filter with the OEM airbox without restricting airflow.
