I know we have a dash cam thread from prehistoric times here, (it's gotta be like two months old, or older! 🤣 ), but I'm too tired and lazy to find it.

Can someone link their choice(s) for a high-end multi-camera system?

I had a :poop: for brains in an F350 run a red light this morning and missed T-Boning me by sheer luck or divine intervention. Really glad this truck can get on it when necessary.
Red-Light-Runners in my area are like cockroaches in a dirty restaurant. They're everywhere.

I am not waiting for FitCamX to get with the RHO program.

Thanks.

I just installed the BlackVue 970XLTEP and there were zero issues with the install.

I’ve used VIOFO for the past few vehicles.
I have the VIOFO A229 pro waiting to be installed when my truck gets delivered. Sony sensors, 4k recording for front camera, 2k or Full HD for rear camera.
Will do lower resolution recording when truck is turned off in “parking mode” as well so it will capture footage if someone tries to break in, steal the truck, or hits it in a parking lot. Or when shops or dealers claim they’ve done work that maybe they haven’t… Records audio in parking mode.

I was planning on blackvue but this viofo seems like a solid option to try first I'm liking that 4k60

I originally went with the Viofa but I like the cloud based monitoring from wherever I’m at with the Blackvue.

Looking forward to C-Tech’s review…I believe he went with Viofo, not sure of the 229 or 329.

How did you run the hardwire?

I’ve seen folks just use the cigarette plug on top of the dash…way easy.

I’ve gone without a camera for many years. Wife’s Tesla has an awesome system built-in, which got me watching “Wham Bam Tesla Cam” videos. The primary theme…at-fault drivers love to lie!

Blackvue makes an OBD II port power cable for their dash cams.

Powering the unit is as simple as running/hiding the cable and plugging it into the OBD II port.

Has anybody hardwired their cam using fuse taps utilizing the fuses under the steering wheel? I need to do this but havent figured out which fuses to use for ACC and constant? I suck at any type of electrical work!

Do you know how to use a multimeter? It's like a compass, everyone should have knowledge of how to use. I'll try and snap some pics this weekend of my hardwire setup.

Nope...I've tried to learn electrical and it's just beyond me. I've taken classes and researched but it just baffles me  Also, it's one of those things I do very little of so as soon as I figure out what I need too I brain dump it by the time I need it again.

I ordered the VIOFO A229 Pro last night as there was a lightning sale on Amazon for $280. Well under the cost for small upgrades for A329. Now need to figure out if I should get 256 or 512 gb micro SD. They aren’t as cheap as I imagined for the VIOFO brand which everyone says you should use. Will also be on the lookout for how to hardwire as I’ll pick up the hardwire kit as well for a clean look.

Same I do project management in commercial construction and electrical has always been the hardest for me to grasp haha.

Is there a Viofo app that works with your phone, so it will notify you if anything triggers it while parked, or you can get a live view?

These are things I would have thought were “gee-whiz”, but senseless frills, but since having them on my wife’s Tesla, I can say they open a whole new level of functionality!

@RHOfan There is an app but it is connected via wifi to the dash cam aka it only works when within 10m of dash cam. Mainly used to pull videos and adjust settings. The blackvue with LTE is more like CCTV where you can view over internet (cloud based) but you will lose camera quality as VIOFO is the best with the Sony sensors. I’m unclear how the VIOFO will alert for the parking features if something happens. Still have to figure that part out, maybe someone else can provide insight on that.

If there’s an alert function for parking mode, I’m not aware of it.
Parking mode on my last VIOFO worked like this.
You park in your garage, or a parking lot or whatever, put your truck in park and just shut down the truck as you normally would.
The dashcam automatically switches over to a lower resolution recording spec to save space and power. If something happens while parked, I’m not sure if it alerts you or not. I’d have to dig through menus

VIOFO seems like a great unit/system, but it's so freaking boxy and clunky looking.

My BlackVue has great quality. I love having access to it wherever I’m at. The main reason I chose this over Viofo.
