First video on many for new Ram 1500 RHO

I hear you, but if it doesn't get any better mileage than a TRX, wondering if it's worth it to find a very low mileage used one?? I drive about an hour each day and the accountant in me concluded that 14-15 mpg was ok but that 10 or 11 wasn't . . .
It's an interesting thought.

RHO is only marginally slower than TRX stock, and seems to close that gap with even a piggyback tube

RHO has significantly better technology/amenities

Reports indicate RHO has a more comfortable/responsive ride

And on the other hand:

TRX exhaust sound
TRX seems to be a more reliable platform at this point in time
720 is a cool number to have

You could make a compelling argument either way

Woke up at 4:30 am in Ardmore, Oklahoma and said screw it. Left hotel by 5 then drove through hours of crappy roads that turned clear and back to crap. I made it home by 6 pm after 800 miles on the road. What a trip.

So I was thinking about this a lot today. I figure with the TRX, on this drive, with these conditions I’d be around 8 mpg. I checked mpg about half way through this drive and it was around 12.

My assumption on the TRX is purely based on the numerous times I’ve driven it. Most of us journalists were also posting mpg reports with the goal of finding out who got the worst.

It seems like you and C-tech ended up right around the same.

I think most of us were a little more, even though none of us are buying his truck for fuel economy.

Based on your experience, do you believe there is any impact from it being a brand new vehicle? Or from winter fuel?

Everyone has told me trucks get better mpg the more they get broken in. I’ve NEVER had that experience. Frankly, I think the difference isn’t the engine getting broken in, but the driver stops slamming on the gas pedal to see how fast it is.

On the winter fuel, this is a real thing. Small displacement engines with turbos are, again imo and with my experience, way more susceptible to conditions like weather, fuel, etc… a non-turbo V8 is pretty consistent between 1-2 mpg. I’ve seen turbo 6s get 5 MPGs or more differences in varying conditions.

Appreciate the insight. I’ve never owned anything with the turbo. Only several eight cylinders..

My current 2018 1500 Sport with a hemi I would say I noticed maybe one to two MPG difference.

Would be interesting to see if you suddenly get 17 MPG on the RHOin the summertime!

Here are some of the first things I've found I like and don't like about the RAM RHO including a paint issue.

BTW, that rock behind the truck is the Scottsbluff National Monument. This is my backyard and another view with my drone. I joke about flat-old Nebraska on social media.
