I’d like to drive it back but just not sure how I would even be able to do the break in procedure driving on an interstate. Also seems like high potential for rock chips. Although I currently have a very low car which may just be a lot more prone to rock chips.
I recommend using surface roads. It takes longer, is less direct, but can be a much more interesting drive. This is a bit of an extreme example, but I bought my AMG from a Maryland dealer and drove it home. I went through the mountains (near tail of the dragon) and small towns. I got through the break in period which was 1500 miles in a day and a half. Didn't get on an Interstate highway until Southern Georgia when I was through my break-in. Very enjoyable and memorable, but it is not the fastest way to get from A to B.

Watch the video someone put in the forum about break-in from the engineer who built the motor. He talks abut it at 29 min into the video. I would keep it under 65 mph for the first 200 miles then drive normally. Don't launch but normal 70 mph shouldn't be an issue.

Hey if you drive 55 mph all the way home at least you get good(ish) gas mileage.
