Current Ride
Nissan Titan - RHO on order
Current Ride #2
C8 Corvette
So my truck finally showed up on the Ram app five weeks after it was built. I'm worried about the battery issue given that it doesn't seem like it has been started since it rolled off the assembly line. It's still sitting there and has not been shipped. Between that and all of the issues being posted of late, I'm seriously considering not taking delivery and started looking at used TRXs - in particular the Lunar Edition mainly because I absolutely love that color combo.

I realize I'm on a RHO forum asking this, but I'm really struggling with this decision. I like the idea of being a bit lower profile with the RHO. I'm in a small city - so while I don't think the crime risk is very high here, having a low-key, black RHO (with rear quarter decals in gray - as to say "this is not a TRX" so don't steal me) would draw a lot less attention. The Ceramic Gray TRX with TRX stickers advertising what it is - and rip snorting exhaust note to draw even more attention to it - seems like it would get both good and bad attention. I do travel a bit and worry about parking it an airport - and this would be my daily driver. To a degree, I feel like owning the TRX would be a bit more stressful ownership experience in some ways. Plus if I have a couple of beers on a Friday night, that truck is just asking to be pulled over. On the plus side, that color combo! I think the TRX would hold value better - especially a limited edition one - and I think we can all agree that driving it is a much more emotional experience than the RHO. And then the mileage . . .

I dunno - but would welcome any thoughts.

Theft stop - get IGLA (trx or rho)

Battery Issue - I'd buy aftermarket ones, which is what I'll do if mine have issues again. My Wagoneer was the same way, dealer replaced and never an issue since (6 months and going strong). The battery's are garbage from the factory, for all RAM products.

RHO is quick, fun to drive, interior is amazing. You can tune it to TRX levels later.
TRX is fast as hell, and a handful to drive.

If your going to drink and drive don't get a TRX, get an Uber.

None of us can answer this. Go with your gut and make a decision. Personally I don’t want a TRX, that’s why I ordered the RHO. Yes it has issues, but I default knowing I’m protected under warranty and these issues will get resolved in time just like any other brand.

I tracked two different RHOs through production (long story). Both went days/weeks without being started, according to app - this is common and not indicative of a problem. One of the trucks even showed up at the dealer before the app said "Shipped"...

Do you really want a TRX that is out of warranty, has likely been launched any number of times, and/or has had people fucking on the interior?

If so, go for it.

Yes yes yes but I wouldn’t get a TRX on the thought that it will hold value better. They are announcing the new TRX in August this year making the final edition models not very final and special anymore. The new one is confirmed to be getting the same 6.2 but with more power now.

As a previous TRX owner the truck rips. The whine and exhaust note were like music to my ears. It did bring a lot of unwanted attention from people trying to look at it in parking lots through the windows and people constantly trying to race you at every stop light. My neighbors despised me but to be fair it had a borla atak on it. Also sub 10 mpg does get old, I have small kids so I do a lot of running around town so the few extra mpg's go along way, its not the cost of gas for me personally, its the convenience of not stopping for gas all the time. I'm not going to say don't buy the trx because at the end of the day its friggin sweet. I do really like my RHO as well, super smooth, great interior upgrade over the trx, and so far I have not had any issues and its just all around a great truck in a different way. I know there's some people having issues but to be fair more people are going to post about problems than posting my truck is running great today. You really can't go wrong with either vehicle, just depends what you want out of the truck.

my .02 cents. . Buying a car as an investment is the dumbest thing you can do. Its a tool to get from point a to b and put a smile on your face. Buy what you will enjoy and will suite your needs best. If you are constantly worried about the trx being stolen, the RHo having an issue, or how much your truck is depreciating every day, you wont enjoy these trucks and would be better just getting a rebel or hd and roll low key in a proven platform. For most of us, the depreciation on any new vehicle we buy is not going to make a bit of difference in your wealth or livelihood. so buy what will make you happy/least anxiety and rally on brother! An HD on carli suspension would be fucking awesome and do everything.

Ive been in the same conundrum as you for awhile due to all the frustration on a year long order and RHo issues constantly posted but ive held strong even with some gorgeous low mile trx popping up around me. I know ill be happy in an RHO or TRX and both fit my needs for speed, offroad use and my wheel company. At the end of the day, 0 miles brand new RHO with a warranty and not abused seemed better than a truck that has been driven hard for a few years, getting close on warranty and nearly the same 0-60.

I wish you well in your journey

If theft is one of your primary concerns, I guess the answer is neither truck is the way to go. Both TRX and RHO will be similar targets.

As for the issues, most so far appear to be battery related. Too early to know if those are defective batteries, or other defective hardware or software causing them to drain. I guess I’m not too concerned if it’s a defective battery issue, as that one is easily solvable. Software updates will be easy to receive if that’s the problem. I’m most concerned it’s an underlying hardware problem that takes days/weeks at the dealer to diagnose and repair.

That said, I had an engine failure with my 2020 Ram with hemi… which is a tried and true platform, and has been stable for many years. Thankfully it failed me at 58k miles and was covered under warranty, but my point is there’s no guarantee anything you choose will be problem free.

From what I understand, TRX forums were pretty similar for the first couple of years. I also don’t know what to make of it. My order hasn’t started production yet and honestly I’ve lost some enthusiasm in my research since placing the order. Fortunately, I had a chance to drive one a couple of weeks ago and the truck was absolutely amazing. I will get blasted, but I actually liked the exhaust note as well. I’m very excited about the RHO in working condition… just a bit of cold feet for being the first year guinea pig.

Thank you. I didn't mean to imply that any single factor is driving my struggle - and certainly not viewing this as investment. But I'm truly on the fence here and a box checked in one column or the other might be enough to push one direction or the other. Plus, I'm an accountant! Depreciating at a bit lower rate is one of those considerations - but it is likely speculation.

I like exciting and fast stuff - always have. My other car is a C8 Corvette and a I drive a Nissan Titan now. So I have the low-key one covered currently. I'm just thinking through smiling on the way to work EVERY day instead of just smiling when I drive the C8. The RHO would do that to a large degree - but without taking the other issues into account, the TRX would make for a bigger smile IMO. It's just a matter of whether more money, little to no warranty and being a bit bigger target is worth that. Who knows . . .

Yes - just shot a note to IGLA in Cincinnati - that's the closest one to me. I've been doing some reading on that - seems like the way to go.

Frog is spot on...

Our lives are full of thousands of machines with multiple millions of moving/connected/energized parts.

If we all worried about every possible failure of everything we use or own, we'd still be living in caves and drawing on the walls with burnt sticks.

BUY WHAT YOU WANT!

Protect yourself with warranties and other quality machines.

This is how I felt. I would get a Trx in a heartbeat if I could afford it brand new. Thought about a used Trx...but anything in the price range I paid for the RHO was like 3+ years old and 40k+ miles (so no warranty). I really like having a warranty lol, and I value that more than how badass the Trx is.

Agreed. I bought my Gen 1 Raptor with relatively low miles (like 40k miles on it upon purchase) but of course it didnt have a warranty. I loved that truck but my god. I had so many suspension and steering rack Issues. IWE's failing.
When I started looking at a replacement, TRX's were at the top of my list and then the RHO was announced. With the dealer discounts it was a no brainer. Sure you have less power and you don't have the sound. But for me, I drive around 25k miles a year. A new vehicle with a warranty and something that was more manageable as a daily was paramount. Ive only had the truck for less than a week but I could not be happier with my decision.

I completely understand the hesitation to buy a truck you have ordered and waited on. I turned down my first order after it took 3 months to go from shipped status to delivered and sat at a rail yard the whole time with no updates from the dealer until I bitched. My second order is also stuck on “shipped” and still sitting at Sterling Heights. This will be my daily and I don’t have an extra vehicle in case this one decides to be a lemon. In addition RAM dealers and service departments are mostly garbage.

Just get the RHO. I smile every time I walk into my garage and see my truck. Since you are considering it chances are you will have the same reaction. Then, get IGLA installed for a little peace of mind when you are out and about.
