Tools needed 13mm socket for oil drain bolt.
Oil filter wrench for 2.92" diameter filter body.
Oil catch basin.

The truck is high enough - no need to jack up. No underbody panels to remove.

Oil drain plug location. (bar with 696AA on it is the Front Anti-Roll Bar) The subframe connector/rock slider that connects the front subframe to the tail stock transmission subframe is kind of in the way. It will be lubricated and corrosion protected after this procedure.

Oil filter is on the passenger side of the oil pan.

Better shot of the oil filter with the flash on. Lots of room to articulate the oil filter wrench.

I made a quick youtube video on how to reset the oil life indicator on the dash.

Nice write up, thanks for the part numbers too 👍🏻
There are a couple ways to be smarter than average bear with oil change on RHO too.
1) Valvomax vs stock drainplug for easier sampling and no mess drains:

2) you can fit a funnel above and into filter drain hole.

3) take a punch and put in the bullseye of filter, once removed you have a small stream that goes right through filter and no splashes or mess when you unscrew filter.

4) Prime the new filter (fill it and lube o-ring)...nobody likes a dry hole.

Great advice on punching a hole in the bottom of the filter. I fully drained the oil pan 1st, yet oil still splashed everywhere when removing the filter. It’s like 1/2 quart is stored above the filter.

Also, a 6” socket extension makes drain bolt & filter removal a piece of cake. Just stick the extension thru the thoughtfully provided holes in the rock shields. Easy peasy.

Do you have a PN for the Valvomax drain plug? I see a few liste don Amazon by size.

Thanks!

CautionaryTale - have you done any of your diff services yet?

thanks for the tips - I'll check out that drain plug. Is it also magnetic? if you don't mind... can I steal your picture of the filled oil filter? - I feel like it should be stated lol.

For TRANSFER CASE: This is a great alternative to the overpriced Mopar (68049954AC) transfer case fluid. I am contemplating just buying 3 qts of the Redline MT-LV to change over the t case fluid vs buying 1 qt of Mopar fluid to “top it off”

Thank you to all in this thread. Much appreciated!

Valvomax M14-1.50 they sent me 2, one with perfect washer and other without. Bought the washer set from Autozone for $7 and used one of them on another vehicle.

Feel free to use anything I post. I don't like magnets on plug itself, but I do put some strong bar magnets on oil filters and after lots of testing it works surprisingly well. (Like panning for magnetic gold)

I checked the dif and was full. I'll be doing ALL fluids (minus coolant) at 2,500-3,000 and send them all away for analysis as well.

So if I'm reading this correctly the RHO uses...
Front Differential -> GL-5 75W-85 (only 1 option)
Rear Differential -> (3.92) 75W-140 (MS-8985) (verified by VIN lookup)
Transfer Case -> 48-11 Mobil Fluid LT. (verified by VIN lookup)
*edited to be correct.*

Transfer Case -> 48-13 Mobil Fluid LT.

This correct?

RHO doesn't have an LSD, just E-locker. Front and rear should both be 75W-85 without friction modifiers as E locker is only engaged manually and when engaged is locked without friction. I'm sure some people have 75W-140 and anything in-between in there too as super common but factory uses the 75W-85

Xfer Case is that Borg Warner 44-40

The RHO has an E-locker not a limited slip. E-lockers work like an open differential and use a magnet to lock the axles together when engaged. They do not require friction modifier, only axles with limited-slip typically require it.

Thank you for correcting me- I checked it another way -> I looked up the parts with my VIN to which my truck had. The Part Number of the diff also shows what fluid it uses in the same graphic - handy.

I was excited when I thought it had a clutch pack in the diff. :P

Good info, just 3 seconds too slow, lol

Stopped by the dealer today to pick up an oil filter, they mentioned to fill to 7.0 quarts, apparently they did 7.5 quarts per the manual which resulted in an overfill status on the oil level monitor.

Can anyone confirm overfill issues filling to 7.5 quarts?

First oil change without changing the oil filter (again did not remove oil filter) I drained the oil and put in 7 quarts. On the dash display for oil level I was just below max (not in red)

Second oil change WITH changing the oil filter (quite a bit came out with the filter). I drained the oil and put in 7.5 quarts. Dash display for oil level was perfectly full... not in max... and not below full.

I would recommend filling with 7 and then topping up from there. It's much easier to add oil than it is to take it out.

I have this Valvomax on my current Rebel and it’s a game changer. Prevents it from splashing all over the sway bar that sits right in the stream path of the oil.

I tilted the truck back ever so slightly, let it drain for a few hours and it took the full 7.5 quarts happily but I didn't mind draining a little bit if it required it, as I had installed the Valvo-max and figured it would just give me a chance to test it out for a little drain. Didn't get that chance, the indicator says its spot on and oil pressure reflected that.

Have you noticed the electronic controlled oil pump on it yet? 20psi below like 2k rpm... high load/ high rpm gets the normal speed/pressure curve.
