I appreciate the information Rprobus provides but I wonder how guys feel when they're told their trucks are in "repair for hood fitment."

It seemed a lot of statuses involved some kind of rework. I wonder how common this is? On one hand I think it's cool that my truck is in the first 100 built, but on the other, it is a bit disconcerting that it might be a frankentruck. Hoping the similarities between TRX's and RHO's mitigates most of the early production teething pains.

We have an entire separate building and team that does PDI on all new vehicles.

This is exactly why I think this thread is a bad idea/I won't be asking. None of the information you receive here is actionable so it'll only serve to play in the back of your head when you otherwise would just be happily enjoying your new truck.

I'm guessing it happens a lot (re-work) and we unwittingly go about lives never knowing LOL Imagine if there was a note on each window sticker stating what adjustments or repairs were made prior to shipping? They would sit on the lot forever or people would expect deep discounts.

I worked at Buick-Pont-Olds dealership back in the day. There was a period of time when just about every light colored car that came in went straight to the bodyshop to have its hood top and trunk repainted. Small metal particles kicked up during rail transportation would deposit on the cars and then rust. No amount of buffing could fix it. Only repainting. What people didn't know, didn't hurt them

My dad bought a couple of body shops in his retirement & I was a parts manager in the larger shop for 2 years. Really got an inside look at how cars were put together.

Several years later, my wife got a Jag S Type R built to her spec. Pricy car in its day. When it arrived & I completed its 1st detail, I noticed the hood paint was slightly off…the metal flake was oriented differently from the rest of the car. Upon popping the hood, I noticed some styrofoam stuck under the hood. Well, it was easy to figure out the hood had been repainted & the styrofoam had been used to support the hood as it got run through a refinish process while off the car.

Well, I learned something from that:

1) New cars aren’t always perfect as they come off the assembly line.

2) It’s best to keep your car out of the spray booth if/when damaged has to be repaired…just shoot the damaged part, along with adjacent panels for blending purposes. Not always possible, but do that whenever you can.

Anyone one have any knowledge of D2 status or the time frame between D2 and production?
 
When it hits production if you send me the last 6 of vin I can look up and see what defects where it’s at in assembly
Still able to do this?
