K and N cold air intake

All gasoline engines need a stoichiometric air fuel ratio. It’s just that some are better at achieving it than others due to modern computer control monitoring systems. As far as high flow air filters not all of them suck. Donaldson has always made very good air filtration systems. The cheap ones such as K&N are better at marketing than they are and actually making it worthy product. Having said that I fully agree. The factory airbox will be very hard to beat.

IdealRace will instrument the factory intake system and we'll report the pressure readings. Anything less than ambient pressure at the compressor inlet is a restriction and unnecessary increase in Pressure ratio the compressor has to deal with... reducing compressor efficiency. So rather than conjecture - we'll measure it. The factory air box may be adequate for factory power output, but I wouldn't be surprised that when we tune it - it generates a pressure drop in the system that can be improved.

Absolutely agree!

As far as any aftermarket hi flow or cold air intake filters out there, the only advantage to buying one would really be the ability to wash and reuse.
With today's modern computer controlled engines, the only air entering the system is what the computer(or mapp) is asking for, no more or less.
If you want more air, then you going to need more fuel, plain and simple, That means a trip to the dyno for a computer adjustment
Even the temp of the air is questionable. Now back in the day of the naturally aspirated, non computer engines....you might have an argument.
IMO, the biggest Hi Performance con out there is the hi flow, cold air intake kit.
One things for sure K&N and all hi flow filters will let more dirt in.

The factory filters is very restrictive because it was designed to filter off heavy dirt/dust when off-roading. It’s not wrapped up in a box like most car filters but it’s open to let more cold air in, not more air, just cooler.. I’m considering a different intake for street use and swapping the factory one for off-road. With a aftermarket intake you’ll definitely hear more turbo ffffffffffffffff and pssssshhhh if you’re into that.
