I'm curious if anyone has more information on the fuel to use for the RHO based on the octane. AK only goes up to 90 but the manual says 91+. Does anyone know if running 90 is going to hurt to the engine at all or be a dealbreaker for warranty work? I'm looking at getting into one and have an order in with Mark Dodge, but I'd hate to bring this beast up to AK and then kill it or damage it with non-manual specified octane rated fuel.

Any insights and wisdom is appreciated. I'm getting out of my Raptor (the build quality is just junk in my opinion), and I want to return to Ram. Ford states that for towing or max performance to run 91 but it can daily just on 87 and I'm looking to see if anyone knows if that would apply to this motor, since its new I'm covering my bases.

Thanks for any replies!

You will be fine with 90. 91+ is recommended from factory for "peak performance."

Hey Yoda33073, I just find the wording punitive in the manual since it says "required fuel". I think you'd be right. Gonna call a service manager today in the local area and ask.

Asked salesman that question he stated Premium fuel. But you can run lower grade fuel but it will lack peak performance power

I wonder how much power is loss by running 87 and if it will affect the warranty if something happens since the owner's manual says it requires 93.

What's the difference? 30 cents a gallon maybe if I stopped putting premium in my lawnmower I could move out of the ghetto laughing my ass off just messing with you but true story

🤣

I fill up in Costco so only 87 or 91 here and with only 30 cents or now 20 cents difference even my 5.7 drinks 91.

YouTube video out there with Ram engineer on this topic..you can use 87 just won't be peak power.. makes sense since compression set for slower burning fuel like 93

Does it say 93 or 91? I thought I saw in a video showing inside of gas filler door 91.

Obviously this is for near sea level. Higher elevations you can go lower octane except if you are towing in the heat I'd always go higher octane.

Says 91+ on the gas tank. 91 should be fine.

Bottom line from that video the system adjusts to burn rate on the fuel you put in. Saw the same 91 on tank lid.. since 91 is a blend it is just a combo of 87 through 93 anyway

If you put a lower octane in it it will retard the timing when it senses knock or detonation which will cause more fuel consumption, so the savings isn't just the price you pay at the pump

That's why I might just use #2 Diesel like my Duramax. No decision between octane just a green handle!

I'm saving up my used cooking grease. Those fancy engineers don't know whay they're talking about. I read on Ram-RHO.com that you can use any fuel you want.

LOL - I remember before emissions many VW diesel dudes went around to collect cooking oil for free (restaurants usually pay to expose of used oil), filtered and had free fuel. I guess this can still be done but with the emissions equipment, high pressure rail systems and lift pumps.....probably not worth it.

I had a few VW diesel cars to commute in. I was driving about 160 miles per day to work. Each VW was tuned and easily averaged high 50's mpg. This was hand calculated and average. I could get well into 60's on highway if I wouldn't take city into account. Also didn't drive it slow. Constant 75-80 keeping up with traffic. Loved those vehicles.

Anyone have any thoughts on using ethanol free. Or tried a tank of it yet. We have mid grade ethanol free around here. And a pump with premium ethanol free not too far away

Can someone link the video of that Ram engineer talking about the fuel?

Ethanol free to E15 should not cause issues on any newer Mopar product. The octane rating is more important.

There is the whole pro-ethanol and anti-ethanol debate, of course, over which is better, which gets you better MPG, which gets more power, you are not pro-farmer if you don't use ethanol, you're dumb to support ethanol as it requires gov subsidies, etc. But regardless, E0 to E15 should not cause issues with factory/OEM settings/tune.
