Ram RHO Fuel to use

Can someone link the video of that Ram engineer talking about the fuel?
apologies this may not cover the specific fuel grade - but great video/interview with a lot of key points on heat, knock, oil grade and testing on the HO Hurricane etc -
 
Hey Yoda33073, I just find the wording punitive in the manual since it says "required fuel". I think you'd be right. Gonna call a service manager today in the local area and ask.

Owners manual states 91 octane and no Ethanol greater than 15%

I know what the owners manual says, but like mentioned previously here in Alaska we only have up to 90 octane fuel.
I would like to get an RHO but want to know how it will run on 90 or if that will damage anything in the long run.

It’s 91 at sea level. Higher elevations can use lower octane. Even at sea level you can use lower octane and knock sensors will pull timing to protect but don’t expect rated power outputs.

that's the funny thing even here in Alaska where i am I close to sea level I know the truck is still very new, I am just curious how much power/performance i would loose over 1 octane rating on the fuel. or even running it at 87, if it is significant enough i may just go with a rebel GT.

Copy That .. IMO it would be fine but only time would tell on long term reliability. I would think there is bit of room in this specification and engine programming as stated in the engineering video. Plenty of AV gas in Alaska, maybe drop a gallon in every fill up to increase on octane a bit. Seem like this would be a perfect Alaska truck.

I don't know where to get AV Gas or the process of getting it. But yeah i am looking forward to being able to order mine. just have to get a few financials things taken care before pulling the trigger on a 80k truck.
 
Ram Engineer told me you can run 87 Octane but would not allow me to put it on a YT video as he didnt want to be held responsible for the info. He said its like the 3.5EB HO from Ford that you should run 91+ octane but you can run 87 octane it just retards timing. Should be ok for winter use, highway driving, but if pushing it towing or off road use probably should only run 91+
 
Are we really still talking about whether you should run 91 octane in a 550 hp, twin turbo 3.0 liter performance truck that costs $85k? come on guys...this shouldn't even be a thread. YES RUN 91. end of story
 
I sort of agree. Its almost like asking if I can run used restaurant cooking oil in a $120k F-450 diesel. LMAO

So true. Time to stop acting like poor college kids scrounging for gas money. If you want to cheap out on the fuel, should have stopped at the Kia dealership.

keep in mind this is the Ram RHO community not the Raptor R group! haha we are all trying to stretch a buck! lol
 
To be fair, this thread was started because 91+ octane isn't available in AK, not over fuel cost. The Edmunds article and RAM engineer comments at SEMA quoted earlier in this thread, seem to be as close to 'official' authorization to use < 91 octane fuel that's been made public. However, for warranty concerns of RHOs operated in AK, the answer for the minimum acceptable octane will likely need to come from a dealership or RAM HQ.
