Transfer case fluid is it topped off?

I called the dealer where I purchased my RHO and talked to the service manager. He inform me that my transfer case and front axle levels were not part of the initial inspection. He said he will happily inspect that for me to ensure everything is where it should be. I have made an appointment. Please don’t assume it’s part of the normal inspection process.

The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO has a BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case. This transfer case is designed to help the truck navigate off-road obstacles and various weather conditions.

Features:
  • Low range: The RHO has a 2.64:1 low range ratio, which is ideal for rock crawling

  • Upgraded internals: The transfer case has improved internals for durability and strength

  • Flat-towing: The RHO can be flat-towed while in neutral

  • Four-wheel-drive system: The RHO has a four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case
I assume this is a different transfer case than the trx, so the question is, what is the proper fluid

Same transfer case as TRX same fluid.

It’s my understanding the T-case is same as TRX. The tech in the video topped off an RHO and used the same fluid as TRX.

Yes, it can be checked at PDI and should be checked at PDI. I used to work for a dealership in a former life and that is on the PDI list. Check ALL fluid levels.
Anthony do you guys keep record of what PDI items were checked on each vehicle you sell? I ask as I have 2300 miles on mine and never would have thought that my Tcase or front diff fluid could be low. I am about to do a big long tow in next week and a half and now feeling I need to get this truck into dealer asap in case this is a problem.

I’m sure they do, but that doesn’t mean it was done. No shade on MD, but less critical/obvious stuff is often skimmed over during PDI. Put yourself in the tech’s shoes…

Safest option is a dealer trip, but not necessarily the most convenient.

Let us know how it turns out.

BTW, in the OP video, the front diff took very little fluid. I’d think that extra 1/2 squirt wasn’t 100% necessary.

And, as someone else said, not every transfer case requires fluid up to the fill hole. The engineers determine the exact quantity of fluid required & maybe that amount was in the T-case, just not up to the fill hole.

I guess what I’m saying…don’t go down a rabbit hole. The truck is under warranty, so if 1/2 quart low fluid kills the T-case in 36K miles, you’ll get a brand new one!

Im changing out the fluid at 2500 miles, so there’s that.

what fluids are you going to use? I've been used amsoil for my oil, thinking about using the fluids in the attached for my t-case and diffs, its what amsoil recommend son their website

Using all OEM fluids. Don’t want to risk losing warranty coverage if a failure occurs. The less variables, the better IMHO.

So cool you got the transfer case plug torque specs…just hope my torque wrench fits between the fill plug & exhaust!

BTW, only doing T-case at 2500 miles. My dealer convinced me that changing diff fluid is a waste of time/$$. But, if I was adamant, they’d recommend it at 30K miles.

Update, I took my RHO to the dealership today. Everything was full. I was able to observe the entire process and was very happy that I don’t have to worry about this being an issue.

Thanks for the update!

So nice being able to observe. At my last Ram dealership, I got to watch everything. Noticed all other vehicles getting the air impact wrench to re-tighten lugs. My truck…torque wrench. Funny how that works.
