2026 Ram Rho

This is too easy. I’m just gonna go with your random $40,000 worth of truck coming from Mexico. Get your calculator out and you’ll discover that 25% of 40,000 is $10,000. Yes, believe it or not in the assembly of some components, it will travel back-and-forth across the border more than once.
My $40k isn't random. You said "I feel very confident in saying that the price of the truck will increase by at least $10,000 just due to new tariffs alone" - which led me to the assumption that you had some basis for/facts supporting your statement. Since you were so specific, it didn't seem unreasonable to ask how you came to that conclusion. On the other had, if this were a purely emotional statement based on your hate for capitalism and the Trump administration, I wouldn't expect any further explanation. Said another way, if you pulled this out of your a$$ then no one would expect an explanation - but just admit it.

Ok - so $40,000 of the total value of the truck comes from Mexico. Which parts are from Mexico and how are they $40k of the total cost? You comment about parts going back & forth is quite amusing. Which parts are those?
I’ve read studies where things like a seat belt, for example, cross the border up to 9 times. CBT has a video showing how a piston crosses the border 4 times.

The price increase on the truck is meaningless really. It is all about the parts. Several suppliers have said they will close rather than impose the tariff.

Also, the tariffs on Canadian steel is going to impact automotive.

I said, in my video on it, my advice is to buy now. With so much uncertainty for the future, it is easy to see this is going to be the biggest disruption since COVID. We are still working on the supply chain from the disruption.

Agree on the disruption for sure. We will see if Trump's thesis prevails in the long run. I have a client that sources and sells steel in the U.S. and competes against other suppliers that are bringing in product from Canada. He expects this to be a windfall for his business. I have another client that just acquired a Canadian company. They plan to start producing the product that is currently made in Canada in the US - at least for the portion that winds up at U.S. customers. So, it adds jobs and GDP to the U.S. That is the thesis and it sounds great on paper - we will see if this actually works and if so, how long it takes for the U.S. supply chains to adapt. We have been telling our clients since November to explore domestic suppliers and options outside of China, Mexico and Canada. Easy to say, hard to do/execute . . .

Well, there’s a completely ridiculous assumption. Why on earth would you think I hated capitalism. And yes, it was based on basic facts supporting my statement. I even told you what fact it was. Tariffs. Fact, Trump said he was going to impose a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada and an additional 10% on China. Fact Trump has imposed those tariffs. Try to follow the bouncing ball. It’s not that hard. Also merely saying you’re $40,000 number isn’t random does not make it not random. I never said anything about $40,000 in parts.

So, it adds jobs and GDP to the U.S.
My question has long been, “great you have created more jobs, for whom?”

I’ve been going to automotive manufacturing plants for years. They have been understaffed for at least the last 5 years. So who is going to work these new jobs?

Understaffed is the new normal in the U.S. and it sure seems like this situation is going to get worse.

Ahh. Now it's clear. Tariffs are a fact. And therefore a $10,000 increase in the cost of RHO is a fact according to you. Now I can follow the bouncing ball - it's very clear how your arrived at you number. Thx for the explanation. Way to "math it out" buddy!

Agree with you here. My clients struggle with the same thing. It's sad how quickly the work ethic and drive/determination of the workforce has declined. Remote work, grocery shopping, dog walking, babysitting your kids and hitting the gym during your workday has become an apparent entitlement since Covid - that hasn't helped matters!

You’re still not getting this are you. The $10,000 price increase is an opinion of mine. This opinion is based on the imposed tariffs. I’m gonna leave the room now so that you can let all this soak in. I enjoy a spirited debate as much as the next guy, but it’s just not nearly as interesting if my opponent is not able to keep up cognitively

I feel very confident = I pulled a number out of my a$$. That much has sunk in. Hopefully I will catch up at a later date the remainder of your intellectual statements.

Where the increase (not an actual increase) most likely will occur, will be all the huge discounts stop. I could see a scenario where you will be buying these for only 1-3 grand off rather than 10-14.

i cant really see this happening when dealers like Mark Dodge were offering $10k+ off all TRX 2021-2024. The 2021 TRX MSRP was nearly identical to the RHO ($70k) from that point forward the MSRP kept going up DRASTICALLY each year. ($93k msrp by 2024) yet the huge discounts stayed the same. If anything the discounts will increase as the MSRP goes up. but who knows its RAM, all speculation man! Lol

Yeah - probably a realistic scenario. Let's be honest, getting these trucks for mid-70s loaded is a pretty good deal.

This doesn't actually make any sense. The mfr is going to be the one to issue the increase in MSRP. If dealers can comfortably take a $10k haircut on an $80k vehicle, they can do the same on a $90k.

Your scenario would only make sense if Ram were the one issuing the discount, which they are not

I do think that at some price point, the volume falls off though - people may only be willing to pay $x for a truck like this. Also, it seems like if this is truly a major cost for the US automakers, those costs are going to work their way into the price of the vehicle very quickly - and price increases have to be coming soon.

But, as soon as TK's 35% MSRP reductions happen, we will be net ahead! :)

Cool story bro. 👍🏻

I can see that as the alternative. If you look at imports, the dealer has a MUCH smaller margin for profits than the "Big 2 plus Stellantis". As the DM for Mazda, the customer thought they were just like the other American company and thought the dealer was trying to rip them off when they came down 800-1k off sticker.

Dealers complained about that but what do you do? The cost is what the cost is.
