Could someone please help me out with the first break in service for RHO? I’ve seen a bunch of different answers online, but I can’t seem to find the right one for RHO. Thanks a bunch!

Edit: I initially misread your post when I added the engine break-in recommendations.

As you mention, there's a lot of different answers/thoughts out there. The Owner's Manual doesn't give special guidance for a first service beyond 4,000- or 6,000-mile intervals, based on duty.

Here' my two cents: I typically change the engine oil and filter at 500-miles. Then the engine oil, filter, axle & transfer case lubricants at 5,000-miles, and follow the OEM maintenance plan to the nearest 5,000-mile intervals afterward.

anybody have all the recommended fluids/filters or know what they are going to use?
 
I don't read much but I sure read a lot more manuals than anything else that come with cars/trucks especially when wife is shopping 😁
 
Typical for a boosted motor. Leave oil in until its time to change. After a few heat cycles for the rear/front gears then on highway roll into boost near full throttle and build boost/cylinder pressure. This will help seat the rings which is important. Towing around town and some highway varying speed and boost helps with this. I would recommend a high profile cargo trailer that's empty. I've done this with all my vehicles (diesel and gas) and never consume oil after break-in. Worst thing you can do is change oil too early with full synthetic not allowing rings to wear and seat, or baby throttle it.

Agreed. I follow BMW break in rules, they've mastered it. Per your guidance above, it follows very similarly to BMW. I'll be changing the oil/filter and rear diff at 1200 miles. I mean why not...I've waited this long for the truck I can endure a proper break in period, I ordered May 14th, still in D status...which is so fucked up, but I can't control it.
 
So, drive only stop-and-go, grocery getting until you hit 500 (or 1,000) miles, then change Oil, Oil Filter and Diff? Should any JiffyLube type shop be trusted to do this?

Hard launches from stop I definitely wouldn’t do, I’m not. However, it is advisable to accelerate from 60-100mph, you just want to avoid high rpm. It’s harder on a motor when you launch from a stop. I have always aligned with more of the BMW break in process and it has always worked well considering numerous compression tests I’ve done with each vehicle. I’ve had BMW M series (still own M3), Cadillac V’s, Ranger Rovers, Porsche, Vettes, etc. All had very high compression so I fully believe in a proper break in.
 
Hard launches from stop I definitely wouldn’t do, I’m not. However, it is advisable to accelerate from 60-100mph, you just want to avoid high rpm. It’s harder on a motor when you launch from a stop. I have always aligned with more of the BMW break in process and it has always worked well considering numerous compression tests I’ve done with each vehicle. I’ve had BMW M series (still own M3), Cadillac V’s, Ranger Rovers, Porsche, Vettes, etc. All had very high compression so I fully believe in a proper break in.

Man this will get a lot of negative opinions, I’m sure, but if it were me, I’d just wait it out a bit longer till 1000-1200 miles with fresh oil and filter and rear diff fluid change. That’s just me though.

Sounds fine to me, I just want to be careful.
 
That sounds like a great plan! From what I gather, the key is to drive gently (no sudden acceleration) and avoid high revs in the first 500 km (or maybe 1000 km?). Once it reaches 500 or 1000 km, it’s time to change the oil, oil filter, and transfer case lub?

KM? How about freedom units?

Honestly, I believe it allows the rings to seat properly and it’s less harsh on the motor than you launching from stop. Launching from stop full acceleration can destroy your motor, I’ve seen it happen before.

So you are saying don’t hard launch it but do it 60-100 instead?
