JB4 is finally here

Now that he has informed me that I (and everyone else on here) am too stupid to understand any of this, I think I'm warming up to this guy. Where do I place my order?

Oh wait . . .
I’m not saying you’re dumb. I’m saying you probably haven’t been tuning engines for 25 years and haven’t seen these tuning boxes introduced and evolve over the years. I’ve evaluated these boxes on dyno’d with high speed ram loggers on many applications. Most people don’t have access to those tools and that data. You guys can buy what you want and you certainly don’t have to listen to my advice. I’m here to help the platform grow and support the community. Some of that is sharing my experience with you. I’ll let yall carry on in here.

It’s not poor etiquette to warn people who don’t have the experience or education in engineering to understand what they are actually purchasing with a piggyback. As a long time calibration engineer and software controls engineer - it’s terrifying. You can call that poor etiquette - but it’s the truth. I’m not a salesman - I’m an engineer.
Here we go again. You may just want to find a different forum. JS29 is right. You seam to have a superiority complex. At the very least a whole lot of arrogance.

From his website it looks like he's trying to branch out from supporting the Alfa Romeo Giulia to the Ram RHO.

Based on my extensive tuning career - I have all the legs needed to stand on this. Piggybacks sell well when the ECU’s have not yet been cracked. Terry Burger won’t argue that a piggy back is superior to a proper calibration. It’s well established that a proper ECU tune is where it’s at - and it doesn’t require an argument or debate. It’s pretty self-evident.

I think everything would've went over better if you lead with the above.

JB4 is a proven platform, a tremendous value, and likely the best option for many owners/enthusiasts.

It's a chore to educate everyone on the differences & advantages to your product, but IMO - worth it and much more professional & classy.

Looking forward to your product as it comes along in development, thank you for contributing to this forum & community!

So I came across a post on FB about tuning and what a dealership can and cannot see. A technician posted a screen shot of a tuned truck (not sure what type of tuning or what powertrain) but it shows a P1400 code for aftermarket calibration detected. I asked specifically about having a JB4 and removing it before service and he stated "anything that modifies the file that lives in the PCM is visible" I don't think a JB4 actually modifies files, so It's still unclear if anything will show up. I don't have any tuning myself, but I am curious about it.

We need someone with a JB4 to remove it and take it to a dealer and see if they see it. lol.

Sounds like a good candidate for that would be IGM auto. Other than the fact that he seems to have fallen off the side of the earth two months ago.

Yeah - I've wondered about that dude too. He did two awesome vids - his first one in the parking garage is what sold me on the RHO! Watched that vid, went to my local dealer that received one a couple of days later and placed my order the same night. Those were great vids!

Anyone in the Houston area? I hope to have my Diablosport installed Sunday and would love to do a compare and contrast.

Chris

^^^Agreed.

I was/still am looking forward to his follow up video review/dyno of the JB4.

Is drivability the same?
For the most part. Under WOT and light throttle it's identical just faster. At partial throttle when tipping into the boost you can feel that it's not quite as smooth - just a tiny bit of surging but I'm not sure the average person would even notice it.

Does the JB4 take care of the lag at all? Like the low/part throttle delay? I remember the JB4 tightened that up on my old e90 BMW. I definitely don't NEED anymore power. But i really need the part throttle lag improved. ALmost like something a pedal commander would fix, if that makes sense

No it does not. I think in the case of the hurricane HO; lag is just going to be a part of it. Turbos that can make 30+ PSI of boost are going to be a little laggy, especially on a 3 liter. Catless downpipes would probably be the only thing that would reasonable increase spool time.

Yeah, that makes sense. I've tuned a metric ton of cars throughout the years, but this is my first 30 psi turbo motor, so it's kind of new territory for me.
