OEM Exhaust flaps

I did this after MurphNH posted some pics of what he did a while back on a different thread. It was cheap and easy to clamp the flaps open. You can hear a difference, but it’s not a crazy difference. Mine seemed to rattle a bit and clamping them open got rid of that. To me it was worth the effort while I wait for an exhaust to come out with the tone I’m looking for.

Not sure what the outside looks like but if it is anything like the GMC flapper you can use two hose clamps and a piece of metal to pin it open. My AT4 rattled at startup and opening it gave more sounds so was a win win

So I just clamped my valves open… I assume and had this thought, there’s no way I clamped them shut right? Resting position is closed and I spun them both counter clock wise about half turn and clamped them in that position.. so that should be 100% open not 100% closed right 😂.. they spin maybe 1/4 turn clock wise and that’s way I turned them counter clock wise..

Wouldn’t wanna be driving around with them shut by accident because I’m guessing that would definitely cause issues

And before you ask, yes I was able to use one clamp per valve. Tightened it and it doesnt move at all no matter how hard I try to turn it.

You should be able to see and feel the difference between winding and unwinding the spring, From memory I think they rotated down and towards the back of the truck or counterclockwise.

Having my valves cut out. Tired of the rattle. $100 at the local muffler shop.

So other than reducing rattle at idle.. any noticeable changes? I can definitely hear a rattle in my cold start idle. I’ll have to get under it to see if I can pinpoint the sound to these flaps.

Not that I can tell. I think I used to be able to tell when they opened under a load while cruising, but that could have been my imagination.

Any drone on highway?

Nah. I can’t tell any different. Less rattle at cold start. There’s really no need, I just wanted to give it a shot.

I'm thinking about having a shop just cut the muffler and flaps out and weld in a 3in in and out double muff.

I thought about it too. I’ll probably end up with the MRT trail. Dude said he would only charge me $100 to install it. He works in $100 increments lol.

I opened my valves for like a week and ended up returning to stock. The truck is always just a bit louder and you always hear the engine humming. Not in a bad way but always felt like engine as under load. It sounded good with them open but in a way always kinda made the truck feel like it was struggling more because it was louder under any load.

Maybe I’m getting old but I think factory setup is perfect. Might open up valves again but I think the truck is already 50% louder than any other vehicles on the road

@Dan G What do you mean the truck was struggling?

Truck wasn’t struggling. Just any acceleration made it louder, making it sound as if the truck is working harder than it actually was.

"Exhaust rattle".... some of you dudes clearly didn't have a gen3 raptor before the RHO... the Exhaust sounded like a coffee can with bb's in it as the valves all went bad!

Doesn’t matter the brand, it’s all junk these days. I just can’t stand having it sound like it’s rattling apart when driving through a parking lot.

Alright, after driving around town for a little bit today, I do think maybe the exhaust is a smidge louder and maybe a smidge deeper but only at low speeds, like maybe 25 mph or less. I like it.

Any change to the high RPM cold start idle sound?

It’s definitely louder/deeper on cold start. Although I back it into the driveway and it could just be echoing inside the garage
