Ram RHO Fuel to use

So true. Time to stop acting like poor college kids scrounging for gas money. If you want to cheap out on the fuel, should have stopped at the Kia dealership.
Fuel availability is not the same as being cheap. AK gas is expensive anyway.

My bad. I skimmed over that part in the thread. Hopefully you guys in Alaska can get a solid answer on the situation.

A lot of varying replies based on how people understood or read my initial inquiry. To the those who found some data, thanks!

I wish we got 91+ octane fuel in AK but 90 should be sufficient after further research. To the folks who made assumptions on what I said I don’t know what to say.

Another thing that might throw you for a loop besides only having mid grade fuel is we have to winterize our vehicles!

To be fair, this thread was started because 91+ octane isn't available in AK, not over fuel cost. The Edmunds article and RAM engineer comments at SEMA quoted earlier in this thread, seem to be as close to 'official' authorization to use < 91 octane fuel that's been made public. However, for warranty concerns of RHOs operated in AK, the answer for the minimum acceptable octane will likely need to come from a dealership or RAM HQ.
Thank you. I live in AK and all of my questions have been based on how much performance I would lose or what it would do to the engine if I ran 90. as that is the highest Octane available in Alaska. I am willing to pay the extra for the fuel, that is not the point of this.

As I said I am more concerned with how it will perform and how much power will be lost on by using 90 octane.

You all who are in AK, what part? I used to live in Kenai and we miss it like crazy.

Mat-Su Valley for me.
We made some trips to Palmer and Wasilla and that was a great area. I wish we would have stayed there (Alaska) longer. We are going to vacation back and visit with friends, hopefully this year. Depending on the cards I think ideally we may have a house there again. Amazing place.

Fairbanks, AK. So this truck is gonna feel -50F at some point. -30F at my house right now.

I think I'll go unleaded bwaahaaa sorry slow day today.

I’m in the same boat as you. I live in Wasilla and my RHO will be up here in a few weeks. I was told when I had my challenger scat pack that 90 is fine. But who knows with the H.O. Hurricane. Guess we will see.

Awesome dude. What dealership if you don’t mind me asking?
Also let me know how it acts and behaves on 90.
Is 90 what you plan on using in it?

Yeah... Imma gonna have to pass on temps that low..

I LOVED cold weather 25 years ago. I used to wear shorts in -10 weather.

Then I got old. Now, if the temp drops below 20F, I feel like one of those frozen iguanas you see falling out of trees in FL...🥶

I use to live in North Pole for about a year. I loved it, can’t to see your truck.

Total transparency I do not have one on order, do not know when I will get one, I am just wanting one and hopping to get one this year.

With the density altitude there, your truck is going to putting down 500+ whp uncorrected SAE. You will benefit from using Boostane. I had access to 90 octane as premium and my 2013 Raptor (590hp Roush Stage II) required 93, as it was tuned specifically for that octane. I either needed to pulley up and run less boost and timing or increase octane. Boostane is very cheap for what you are getting. I put over 60k on the truck (from 100-160k) and it only took me around 7oz a tank of the Race blend of Boostane to get to 93.5 (built in a margin of safety) when filling up on 90 octane. No ill effects on the truck. I ordered a 5 gallon pail of it from VMP Performance. This was back in summer 2019, but it was only $299. From what I recall it was good for 85+ tank fills, or around 40k miles in the truck.

It’s a bit more expensive now, but still worth it IMO, especially if you plan on tuning it (or piggybacking it, which works but I’m not a fan of since there is no TCM tuning to compensate for additional torque).

I ordered from Mark Dodge, having it shipped up here. Will do! Yeah I plan on running 90. Unless there is a need to add something to boost the octane.

Damn man. I am driving my back after my TDY. Save a lot of money that way. How much is the shipping cost?

I don’t know if I want to put over 5k miles in the truck just bringing it home form the dealership.
The cost to fly, the time I am gone and hotels I a
Think I would save more then I spent but still not sure if it is worth it.

Ya. If I wasn’t already in the local area for a TDY I wouldn’t. How much is your shipping though? That could change my thoughts.

Just keep this in mind if you’re considering adding an octane booster. From the Users Manual:

  • The use of fuel additives, which are now being sold as octane enhancers, is not recommended. Most of these products contain high concentrations of methanol. Fuel system damage or vehicle performance problems resulting from the use of such fuels or additives is not the responsibility of the manufacturer and may void or not be covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
