RAM RHO Transmission Issue

well I'm lost!

the D1 means drive one, in manual I believe it says S1 or M1, you can configure you're dash to display the gear as well as the heads up display
Ok got it, that makes sense to me then. Man I’m drawing a blank on this one.

I'm going to try switching from M to D, and I'll also disconnect the battery to reset the PCM. How long should I way before reconnecting, 20 mins? Man, I feel like tech support "now power off your PC, now turn it back on". Ha!

That should be sufficient. I believe RAM states 15 mins, but another 5 “just in case”. Alternatively, after the time, you can touch the battery cables together for about 30 seconds to discharge any residual voltage. This can expedite the PCM reset process.

Just curious about manual shift mode (aside from any performance modes), just make sure the truck isn’t set to force you to use the paddles, that’s what I think is going on. Have another dealer check it out, clearly those ass clowns aren’t competent.
You can go into the settings of the digital cluster and turn on the “current gear” display. Mine shows the gear in all modes at all times.

Thank you

My transmission just doesn’t feel smooth. Primarily when slowing down, the shift from 3rd to 2nd clunks often. And in slow/creeping traffic if I tap the gas it clunks. When driving at 20+mph it’s smooth. It seems to not like when it’s not under load.
I have noticed the same thing when tapping gas from slow speed. Does not feel smooth until it gets going through gears. It’s like it’s catching hard or maybe the clunk you reference.

So I finally had an issue come up with my RHO. Whenever I’m in WOT in first gear, it will not shift into second. It will bounce off the rev limiter and fall on its face. I tried this in both auto (sport) and manual - both have the same results. No CEL, which is surprising. Any ideas?
Any updates on this? My trucks been at the dealer for weeks for the exact same reason and does exactly what your truck is doing. Dealer has opened a star case and they’re waiting for what to try next. Star had them replace the transmission and it did nothing. Now waiting. Doubt it has anything to do with it but I do have Eibach springs all the way around and I believe you do as well. Most likely a coincidence but it started right after they were installed. Truck has about 2k miles.

They replaced your transmission and that didn’t resolve the issue???

No resolution as of yet, has been sitting at the dealership since Wednesday last week. The LAST thing I want is my brand new truck torn apart, that’s outrageous.

When did you bring in the vehicle?

My vehicle also has 2k miles.

Can confirm the clunk is real in stop n go crawling. I was stuck on I40 for two hours going less than 10mph and it was constant every time you tried to just engage the throttle to move slightly faster than idle.

I did eventually kind of figure out how to feather it to avoid most of it, but it's definitely there.

Whatever - nothing we can do about it. Powertrain warranty.

Yeah replacing the trans did nothing. The trucks been there for a month now and they still don’t know what’s wrong. If they figure out your truck please let me know. My truck does exactly what your is doing. So it is the same issue.

So what are next steps for the dealership?

***UPDATE*** My service advisor and technician were able to replicate the transmission issue when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. They conducted a transmission fluid analysis to assess the condition and check for contamination, which revealed an abnormal level of wear metals, they determined that a transmission replacement is necessary. A new transmission has been ordered and is expected to arrive within 10 business days, plus additional time for installation.

Interested to see if it fixes the issue. They found abnormal level of wear metals in mine as well. After they replaced my Transmission the problem was still there if not worse according to the service advisor. Time will tell I guess. Thanks for the update.

I really think (and I believe someone may have recommended this already) that we should try and actually document all the issues people are having. We could document the total number of failures, the types of failures/what may have caused them, we could look at what has been resolved and what hasn't. At first it was just battery issues, then it was wiring harnesses, then it was modules, there have been cat failures (maybe due to poor wiring?), there have been transmission failures, 1 hydro-locked engine, and differential issues (though this appears to be due to improper diff fluids).

I don't know, maybe this is a dumb idea, but it would be nice to see all of this documented in one place. It could potentially help others as they service their vehicles because their would be a consolidated list of things that could potentially cause the issue and/or fix the issue.

It’s going to be a long list… but agreed at a minimum it can help connect some dots to get to faster resolution. I suspect in many cases, Technicians are seeing these RHOs for the first time… there just aren’t many out there. Helping provide them some background could get to faster solutions.

I mean it can't hurt and may be enlightening to those on the edge of purchasing or someone like myself that is on the edge of selling mine. It is such a love/hate relationship right now. I completely love my truck...when it is working. Nothing else I have driven makes me feel the way the RHO does when its working the way it is supposed to. That said, I have literally lost sleep over this fucking thing...wondering if the issue I saw the previous day went away or if I will have a new one today. I want to visit my bro and his family, he really wants to see the truck (also a truck lover, but a Ford guy) but I told him I am not sure I am comfortable driving it the 3.5 hours because I am nervous something might happen causing us to be stuck either in transit or away from home.
At the end of the day I have been really fortunate to drive a number of new cars (including first model years) and this is the only one that has truly caused me to stress out and make changes about how I normally conduct my life to accommodate a fucking $80k+ truck that is wonky at times.

I created an RHO Build Tracker that many have put information into. I just added an Issues Tracker tab (second tab) that we can start using. We can modify the format of this sheet as we get more information, and I'll clean it up periodically. Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yu6UFvGTdc_ng_GnF5htxvS6ejvgN_E6zEbjp-5fTlQ/edit?usp=sharing
Guys/girls, I strongly encourage everyone take 2 minutes and fill this out. I really to think it will be enlightening one way or another.

I've been noticing the same thing. Its really noticeable when in sport mode.
