RHO Delivered

After doing a full detail on my Hydro Blue L1 and putting 100 miles on it, my only negative impressions:

1) Defect-a minor paint run on the rt ft door…color coat so it can’t be wet-sanded out. My take on this? They put a good thick coat of paint on her…no thin or dry spots.

2) Thanks to an extended period in storage (production date is 10/24, so maybe as long as 45 days), there was extensive acid rain damage on the right fender. Maybe the factory paint protection film on this fender got torn off prematurely? Got it corrected with some aggressive hand polishing and two types of rouging polishes. Thankfully, no need to pull out the Porter Cable RO.

3) The exhaust sounds terrible…to me. I’m accustomed to V8s. I’ve also owned a couple 6 cylinder diesels. To my ears, running down the highway, RHO sounds like an old Chevy, 6 cylinder gas work van with a blown muffler. Sorry, but that’s my impression. I wish they just made it quiet, like a Tungsten.

4) Throttle tip-in is very aggressive. Manufacturers often do this to make a humble powertrain “feel” more peppy. I think the hurricane will have enough power for the RHO, so I don’t know why they tuned the throttle in this manner. But it could prove troublesome in certain low speed off-roading situations.

5) The HK stereo system sounds awful to my semi-audiophile tuned ears. It has a very pronounced “mid-bass hump” & zero real sub-bass...tuners use this to create a “warm sound” that appeals to the masses. But, if you have a critical ear, you’ll be disappointed. The speaker grilles are very pretty, IMHO…ha!

Otherwise, this truck is big, bold, comfy as heck & a treat to drive.

It drinks lots of fuel (I’m finding the EPA estimates are pretty spot-on), but it’s a heavy, non-aero pickup on knobby 35s, not a Corolla.

It can be a handful in tight spaces…I found using the mirrors is best 95% of the time…the surround view supplements the mirrors and can eliminate the need for a spotter in certain situations, but it’s best not to rely on it.

The infotainment menus are extensive & will take some time to master. Bluetooth connectivity & Android mirroring hasn’t been perfect…I’ve had to reconnect my phone a couple times. Hopefully, I’m doing something wrong & it’s not the OS that is buggy.

That’s all I have to share for now. Dealer will be installing power boards & bed mat shortly. Getting a LINE-X bed cover ASAP. Tint & partial PPF tomorrow. To the member who posted about the front mud guards from Weathertech, THANK YOU! I was going to look for something to protect the lower doors, other than expensive PPF & those should work!

Yeah, the exhaust isn't the greatest, that's for sure, but its also nice to not be as ridiculous as a TRX and wake up the neighborhood at 6AM or draw a bunch of attention.

Yep! The HK system doesn't really live up to the hype, not sure why they had to bundle all that stuff into the L1 package because I'd rather go aftermarket for the audio, maybe slip 2x 10" subs under the back seats.

The UConnect system is kinda slow/laggy, esp. when switching driver profiles. Hope there is an update that speeds that up.

thanks for the awesome write up! How would you compare the looks/aggressiveness to the raptor? Ive always loved how mean the Raptor looks driving down the road.

You should have bought a Raptor. SMH

The HK system sounds awful??? It's the same in the TRX, and it sounds amazing for a stock system. I'm a huge audiophile, I even run 11 Focal's and 6 subs in my shop alone, with a total of 30 speakers which includes my outside entertaining areas, so I'm surprised by your comment. Maybe something isn't right with your system?

From what I’ve read on other Ram forums it’s actually harder to integrate an aftermarket stereo with the alpine system than the HK. Which sucks for me because I was looking forward to doing a system replacement with my L0 at some point down the road. I know that alpine system will not be near as enjoyable as the HK 15 speaker system in my stinger that is one of the best stock systems I have heard, better than the Ram HK.

For the folks that just received delivery, about how long did it take from the "vehicle built date" until delivery. I know it likely depends on the distance to some degree but it sounds like some of them sit for a while before getting on a transport which could make it anywhere in the US in a few days. Mine shows a build date of Nov 22 so curious when to expect it to arrive at Mark Dodge in LA.

I wouldn't use the term "awful" but its not really a banger. I turned up the treble and mid a couple notches, turned up the bass 1 notch and enabled "surround sound" which made it sound better.

I've got the same black TRX wheels on my white Rebel with 35's. Love the look, which is why I went back with them again.
What did you

What did you had to do to fit the 35s?

I will try that. As you said, it’s not a banger!

Back when TRX 1st appeared, saw a YouTube video with a guy who had taken his TRX to an audiophile shop in MD. They used the stock speaker harness to integrate a parametric EQ & added subs/amp under the rear seat. I think they also replaced all the stock speakers, as the guy wanted all Focal & JL Audio equipment. He claimed to have paid $10K, and it sounded “banging”.

I think we could get 95% of his sound with just that EQ, subs & a sub amp…maybe $4-5K, depending on how crazy you get with the subs.

thanks for the awesome write up! How would you compare the looks/aggressiveness to the raptor? Ive always loved how mean the Raptor looks driving down the road.
I like both.

Saw a Gen 2 Raptor next to my RHO yesterday & it looked oddly small, though that Gen 2 is my overall favorite Raptor in terms of looks.

Gen 3 vs RHO…mmmm…pretty close, though I’d give RHO the win. (Obviously…ha!)

yeah, the interior is what sold me on the RHO vs Raptor. Ford cant touch the tech and design of the RHO. Thanks for the insight bud!

@RHOfan, what is part number for power running boards and if you don’t mind, how much are they with install?
The dealer included them “in the deal”, so I don’t have either the price or part#. Sorry. I may know more once I get them installed (hopefully next week).

It will never sound like a V8 and I am glad they put some work into trying to make it sound better, but it will be the aftermarket that really figures it out. Stock exhaust won't live long on mine

I’ll let you know if I find anything wrong or if I’m able to tune it. I did play with the basic EQ, which gave the treble a nice tone, but that was the only improvement I could achieve at this point.

We all “hear” differently, so that may be why we differ in opinion. Don’t mean to offend anyone.

My neighbor has a TRX with HK & we never talked sound system. I may bring it up with him, as he might provide some insight.

Ok cool, and brother you're not offending anyone here, I was just surprised you don't like the sound of the HK. I mean, it's not Focal's or JL's by any means, but for a stock system it's pretty damn good. You have me worried now, like did Ram fuck something up...I wouldn't be surprised, lol.

Members on 5th Gen form saying that the HK in 25s is not as good as the pervious models.
