Battery is Dead in my RHO...

I have gone off the deep end with all this battery stuff.
1. Replaced main battery
2. Replaced start/stop battery
3. Installed the OEM battery in bed of truck with an isolator switch (lets the charge come from alternator but not back to main battery)
4. All aftermarket accessories tied to Aux Bed Battery - Electric steps, electric bed cover and dual ARB air compressor
5. Install (3) Bluetooth battery monitors
6. Installed NOCO 5x2 battery charger under the hood and it keeps all 3 batteries charged as does the alternator.

A plus to this setup is that in the event your main battery dies there happens to be a spare battery in the bed!

Have any of you guys swapped an H8 battery for the dual batteries? You would lose the auto start/stop but you don’t have to worry about the aux battery draining the main battery. From what I’ve read that seems to be a theory by many

That is deep! Pretty soon, that RHO is going to be classified as a BEV!

I said the same thing! EVRHO
I wanted to isolate EVERYTHING aftermarket from the Ram computer. I also carry around a NOCO jump pack and have considered sticking a Jackery in the mix or a inverter to run the on board NOCO charger.

Interesting to hear the 992 drains the battery. I’ve never experienced a battery drain with either Porsche when they’ve sat a week or more without the Ctek, but I’m not taking chances with their expensive batteries. My dad has sat longer with his 718 with no issue….still I’ve made him pit his on a Ctek now.

The NOCO 5 a jump starter, correct? Does the NOCO 5 have a trickle feature, too?
The NOCO (Genius) 5 is actually a trickle only charger.

bought it for the RHO and actually like it better than my CTEK I have on the 911. It actually seems more robust (built) and does not get as warm as the CTEK does on trickle. I'll get another one likely

From what I am understanding if you want to jump one of these RHOs you would effectively need two jump boxes to be connected to both batteries and then it would work?

did your 23 have a main and aux battery too?
No, that’s the strange part, just one good healthy battery and I couldn’t jump it no matter what we tried. RAM just out another one in and called it resolved, but I noticed my sw had been changed, this was last year.

Wait…when you charge the main does it not charge the auxiliary battery? That makes no sense to me.

wow not being able to jump one of these trucks is just weird. This would be the first truck I have owned you cant jump, I will talk to dealer about this more tomorrow.

Incredibly weird. This thread is giving me so much anxiety, lol.

stay tuned, I am to stubborn to give up on this...I am hopeful this is a bad batch of batteries with a update and good to go. When my truck gets back I am going to do some voltage drop study to see how much its impacted over a few days. My truck will probably be sitting another 8 days or so...so we will find out quickly if its fixed or not.

Appreciate it! So grateful for you and @testerdahl for your expertise and incredible platforms, thanks for all you guys do!

I'm up to 3 dead now, 2 of which wouldn't jump with my jump box, needed to be hooked up to another car for about 10min. Truck goes in on Friday. Best part is they have been at 4am when I'm done with work.
Very concerning. At least in some states, three times for the same issue invoked the lemon law. My buddy's Wagoneer has had it happen twice. We shouldn't have to deal with a basic issue like this on an 80k+ truck! So disappointing to hear.

You can 100% jump our trucks since I just did it with both batteries at 4 volts. The big difference with mine and ctech is mine was only like that for a couple of hours and after charging it was like it never happened and has been perfect since. This is not just bad batteries but also parts of the truck that are staying on and the truck not smart enough to fully disconnect power when it sees batteries go below say 10volts. Since it is taking the batteries so low jump packs are all but useless since they are intended for a weak battery not a completely discharged battery.

Can you share more about how you did this? Just a traditional car to car jump? I'm wondering if you can link the battery ones together some way to get enough juice? So annoying to actually need to find someone willing you jump you in this day and age.

Well I guess I did not do a traditional car to car since my truck was blocking my jeep in the garage. I put a charger on start mode on the main and since I was in a rush I put my jumpack on the aux battery and it started right up. I did try the charger by itself and was just getting starter click but sure if I had waited a few minutes it would have started just off of that. The jump pack which I tried first went from 100% to 60% in a matter of seconds and only seemed to turn on electronics and would not turn the engine over.

I'll share my experience not sure if it's gonna help or not. My truck died and had a tow company come with one of those big portable jumper. Took several attempts but finally started, however, it died again after a min and couldn't jump it anymore. The next day another person came with a spare standard car battery, hooked it up, waited about 5 or so more mins and was able to start it. I drove straight to the dealership and they confirmed both batteries failed and replaced them.

I agree with this. Something is staying on after shut down. Only thing I have noticed is the USB ports stay illuminated and powered for some time (not sure how long) but they eventually go off. I haven't stayed there for 30min or 1-2 hours watching it.

I was having substantial voltage drop even with replacement batteries for a couple months until recently. I left my truck sitting for 3 days with keys/card put away in a faraday box and my battery monitors only went down to 73% SOC (state of charge) and 12.8 volts. Previously it would drop to around 63% at 12.2 volts in the same amount of time. I wish there was a way to know if or when there was an OTA update. I just have a hard time letting my brand new truck just sit for a week or two to do more test.
