The Great Running Board Dilemma

To answer the OP’s 1st question….yes, the front tires throwing crap at the flaired bedsides is a real problem! See attached photo.

Solution for me: Front mud guards from WeatherTech and PPF on the front half of my bedside.

I will have power running boards (Mopar…hopeful they arrive at my dealer next week), but when folded, I don’t think they do much to protect the bedside. I could be wrong.

FYI to people on the fence between power running board manufacturers

Spoke with the parts guy at my dealer (Helfman in Houston) who will be ordering my running boards and tonneau prior to taking delivery of my RHO.

I mentioned to him that I wanted the Mopar power running boards for the truck and he said that is good to hear since the wiring has changed for 2025 and they cannot find a way (yet) to install the Amp Research power running boards.

YMMV

The green “can junction” next to the steering column where the 2pin sensor plugs into is no longer there on the and they couldn’t find it anywhere.

The same dealer has mine in right now for the misfiring. They have a guy that comes in to install kill switches. I am going to see if he can find a way to hook up the Amp Research PBs that I currently have on but not hooked up. Will keep everyone posted, otherwise I’ll have to wait until new wiring harness is out.

I've inquired about the kill switch and I may also have him set mine up too

Working with Tony for these things?

Yeah Tony - you would think it should be easy, but then again one would also think I’d be able to even drive my truck 😂 🤷‍♂️

Thinking this is reference to a switch some of the aftermarket boards offer (possible option with Mopar ?) - a surface mountable switch to over-ride the door open/extend boards ... example from Go Rhino -

I don’t know where your from but in ND, it doesn’t warm up and we didn’t have a heated garage. Clunk, clunk, clunk is all you heard.
Eastern or Western ND?

Kill switch is in reference to a system or process that kills the vehicle’s computer / system from sending out signal when the truck is off which prevents potential thefts, which people do by driving by your vehicle and using a computer to basically mimic your key. It’s apparently a big issue with these trucks/TRX. Maybe more so here in Texas due to proximity to Mexico, where they end up. But have no idea.

Did hear that a dealer was having issues with codes throwing on after install of Mopar power steps. No insight afterwards but just fyi.

Anyone know if mopar as LEDs that light up the step like the amp research ones? Not the integrated led in step but ones mounted underside of truck.

Its a good question - ive been digging/comparing Mopar vs Aftermarket installs - here is the mopar install guide (for the 2024 1500 models) and I dont see any reference to LED's ... no image for the surface mount LED's on the rocker panel.
Almost guessing they figure since there is illumination from the side-view mirrors - board lighting isnt as critical (I personally like the boards lit a little - dont need the full led down the whole board)

Someone made a great point about the Off-Road Boards today.

They stick out far enough that you'll almost never need to worry about door dings! LOVE IT!!

They just saved me the possibility of spending $2500+ on the powered boards...

This is exactly why I didn't get powered steps

I have them on the TRX and going to have them on the RHO for that exact reason. I was debating on power running boards, but love that it takes a really tall vehicle to even get close to a door ding with the off road running boards.

I started this thread so thought I would give an update. I decided to go with the oem off road running boards. Requested them to be added to my order and to my surprise they were! Ordered 6/1, no movement other than this. Really started going back and forth lately with some of the mechanical issues, trying to hold firm!

I picked up mine on Thursday from the dealer. Ordered the off road boards and so glad I did. Great looks, function and protection all in one!

Got any pics? I’m probably getting some running boards just to prevent door dings in all honesty 😂
