Misfiring after 475 miles

That’s what happens when catalytic converters meltdown. That’s the core of the catalytic converter melted.
What causes them to meltdown? Wrong timing? Bad fuel? Bad O2’s? This is insane for a new truck.

I feel a backorder of cats for these things incoming

Any idea what causes it?
Rich fuel AR most likely from bad injector. Bad 02 won't do this alone IMO. Don't forget these are very high pressure (~5k psi) fuel rails similar to diesel that run 30k+ psi.

Damn I had almost convinced myself to take delivery of the truck that supposed to be delivered to Mark Dodge in a couple weeks. Not so sure anymore. They might have a all black Level 1 with no pano to sell on the lot. Just not sure I'm willing to take the chance.

And, is this a “one off” case? I hope so, as my odometer just crossed 400 miles today & headed on a vacation trip tomorrow!

Something to think about…

These engines have been in the Grand Wagoneers going on a year. I haven’t heard a ton of negative press on them, at least not the engine.

Picked her up Thursday, not the best start… Couldn’t make the journey back home 😢

Maybe your injectors have the clap. The drippy drippy. Or fouled plugs. Too much raw fuel in the cat leading to melt down.

Did the engine light come on? What did they tell you? Hopefully just software.

This is really getting interesting.

Engine light came on, then while heading up a hill coming into to Phoenix it started blinking. Then went solid again so I got it to closest dealer to me. With it being a Saturday I was told it wouldn’t be looked at til Monday as they close at three and they didn’t have anyone available. I picked up a rental and drove the rest of the way home. I’m going to call Ram Monday morning so I can open case to try and stay on top of it since I live a little over three hours away from that dealer.

Maybe I shouldn’t get rid of my raptor for this after all…. I’m getting concerned.

Yea I’m with you. This is absolutely ridiculous. Like RAM, how about doing a thorough QC check BEFORE it ships to the customer. RAM is becoming a joke with these new 1500’s, such an embarrassment to the industry. Ford is laughing all the way to the bank. Really reconsidering my investment. Nobody should be driving their brand new (nearly 100k) trucks from the dealership just to turn right around and bring it back and drive their trade in home and hopes the dealer can “figure it out”, like what in the actual fuck. Like many of us, we will be coming from other states to take delivery. I will come completely unhinged if this shit happens to me and wastes my fucking time. Unreal.

I have to agree. They will have a lot of even MORE pissed off people if they finally start getting these out to customers and everybody is having to deal with $80,000 paperweights that they can't drive.

Your codes are the same as mine. It took them a week to find the cats had melted so would inform them to start there. Mine should be replaced by this Wednesday so will let everyone know if that is the solution after the test drive or if it’s deeper as suggested on here ie injectors, etc. The dealer thinks this will resolve it, but we’ll see.

Thanks for the heads up, I really appreciate it! I will let them know Monday morning!

Exactly. For example imagine driving your trade-in hundreds of miles away, do all the paperwork, take delivery, and drive off with your new RHO with your precious family in the truck, then 300 miles into your drive back home your truck begins misfiring and you have two choices, either drive all the way back to the dealership to get your trade-in OR you make the rest of the trip back home (hoping you actually make it home), just to drive it to your local dealer who will tell you to fuck off when you ask for a loaner vehicle for them to “figure it out” and forcing you to rent a car for X days on end….Yea I’m out with that shit. I’d be a straight up psychopath.

Everyone is rushing the factory to build these but it sounds like there are still bugs to work out. Shocked we are seeing these issues here with the Ram but not wagoner, but they do have different PCM programming being the RHO has multiple drives modes with supporting tables for AF, cam position, timing, etc.

I don’t think just replacing the cats will solve it. Something caused the cats to melt down. I’m thinking bad injector(s) and/or poor PCM programming.

Good luck guys. Feel bad for the ones going through this, and I’m in no rush for them to start building my truck now.

Hey, my wife actually fixed my blind spot monitoring fault today…after multiple days at the dealership & still wonky…she opened the vehicle menu & there is an “off” button for blind spot monitoring.

She turned it off & guess what? No more crazy chimes & safety system fault warnings on the IP…BRILLIANT!

Maybe Ram wants us to buy these things & just not drive them. It can’t break if you don’t use it, right?

In all seriousness…Ram builds ‘em…stores ‘em…plenty of QC time & they still get delivered with crap not right. Oh yeah, the dealer will figure it out…it’s as complicated as the Space Shuttle! Not fair to the techs & service advisors. Most will try their best…it has to be frustrating.
