RHO range and MPG

Can you share what mode(setting, start/stop, etc) you are driving? I averaged 11.3 city/freeway at 400s miles. Me and my wife barely go over 70, lightly hit pedal all the time. Thanks

To everyone, what mode/custom setting is best for smooth ride and for mpg? Any tip is appreciated. Our first truck and in our late twenties. Thank you. 😊
Let's get back on topic here! We are talking about drive shafts, rust, coatings and car washes on this thread LOL. I'm just as bad when I see a squirrel . . .

I haven't changed out of the standard drive mode yet. So I guess that's auto? I disable auto stop start as that is VERY hard on engine bearings... great for fuel economy however.

I guess the way you're able to get better mileage is more of a game to me. I put the fuel economy instant fuel economy on the dash and I play it like a video game. Using the brakes as little as possible, carrying speed through corners, using the throttle as little as possible, accelerating downhill, coasting before the crest of a hill. Google "hypermile strategies". Drag is your enemy - so the higher the speed you go the more power it takes to push through the air - so if you avoid 70mph freeways and stay on 45mph backroads... instant gains. it'll definitely take you longer to get to your destination than if you drove like your hair was on fire, but if you're bored, have time, and want to play a game - it can be done. When I just drive like my normal asshole self and go 83mph on the freeway and move as quickly as I can through traffic - my MPG is much closer to 14. I think as I keep taking weight out of the truck - it'll continue to improve.

Car washes are still a no-no. I use mostly Griots car wash products. Love the Griot's products. I hit it with Foaming Surface Wash, rinse, hand wash with mit, rinse, Foam it with Poly-Gloss (w/softened water), Rinse (w/softened water), dry it. I really like my setup - been modifying it over the years... but the Griots poly-gloss is a game changer.

yes I have ADHD superpowers.

What do you when it is 20 degrees outside and you need to film your truck? All your hoses are put away and you can't attach anything to the outside spigot for fear of cracking. Asking for a friend...

Pay n spray is the option in the winter to get some of the grime off. Just don't use the brushes or use a towel to dry it afterwards

If it's not super dirty, rinse less wash products are pretty good but daunting on a vehicle this big

Thats when you grab a stack of quarters (they are round, sometimes shiny pieces of metal that we used to use for making phone calls and playing video games), hit up one of those car washes that sprays the belly, and lets you use their guns or anything touchless. If I had PPF, I'd brush it too and just buff it after winter.

I don't live where it snows but we do get freeze issues on occasion, I put insulation on exterior pipes, bring hoses inside and all that fun. If I had the room to clean the truck out of elements, I'd rig a pump to filtered water tank with heating element and connected to give it a clean, then hook the hose up to a deionizer for final rinse to for spot free lazy dry.

I've done the spray places and they do a so-so job. It is tough when I need to film and the truck is absolutely covered. Most people don't mind a dirty truck, but not THAT dirty on camera.

I think I see an opportunity to ask some experts and get some varying opinions on this topic. It seems like everyone has their various point of view.

Yeah, lots of ways to wash a vehicle so lots of opinions but there is really only 1 way any great detailer would but that's in optimal conditions and your conditions sound like they aren't that.

Any speed wash method is going to leave its mark, the different methods all leave their mark(s) differently and with your solid PPF or brand-new clear coat, it's easily buffed out (until it isn't).

When I say great detailers, all do it the same way, I don't mean chemical or product-wise, but they'll all kick it off with a touchless foam, spray off, 2 bucket handwash, rinsed followed by a sprayable ceramic and finished off with deionized rinse and dry.

Honestly, I’ve been running vehicles through car washes for decades. It was only until forums and social media came around that I learned others don’t.

Same here when I went away from black. After many months I notice some swirl marks and only me when you looking for it. Some polish every 6-10 months and it's good to go 😂

If you don't keep vehicles very long or don't care about paint finish it can be a non-issue. When we had our first kid my wife didn't want to wash her car, so I got her a membership at local carwash, which she used 2-4x per week. After 4/5 years it had completely removed her clear down to the paint in areas it most rubbed with its cleaning tentacles. Left swirl marks deep enough to require cut and polish buffing in the areas least abused.

The reality is those machines don't get cleaned in between washes, so dirt and debris accumulates and turns the scrubbers into an abrasive akin to sandpaper. The scratches and swirls are immediately apparent on colors like black or trained eyes on any other color but over time they will be apparent to even the most eyesight challenged of us. Heck, a blind person could probably divine some kind of braille message within the paint :ROFLMAO:

At the end of the day, it's your ride, your money and your time, do whatever floats your boat...just don't sink mine ;)

I just filled up for the second time and wanted to share my numbers:

326 miles, 24.42 gallons = 13.35 hand calc
Computer showed 13.0 in the trip screen

Winter gas 93 octane. Decent amount of idling on remote starts as well with it being so cold here.

Probably 85% under 55 MPH state highways and local roads, 15% expressway.

I remember when I started doing mpg tests and everyone demanded hand calculated figures because that’s the truth! Turns out, after 14 years, hand calculated turned out to be of such little difference it didn’t matter. If a computer is off by less than a .5 mpg who cares really.

Yes they are very decent this days. My last ram after about 2k miles was never by more than 0.3 off.

I am averaging 11.5mpg at best, to compare, my '22 TRX was 10.5mpg. I have no idea how a 6 cylinder turbo motor has very little MPG improvement over a 6.2l supercharged V8 lol

While it’s too early for me to give any numbers, one thing to keep in mind is depending on location, the cold temps and winter blend fuel can cause lower mpg numbers right now as well. When I had my trx my range would drop 50-75 miles during the winter

My 2022 TRX is averaging 11.6. Mainly in town driving with some highway mixed in. I do let this dog eat when needed.

Probably, because similarly appointed TRX would be $120k-$130k. Look at Final Edition prices on the 2024 TRX's. Then add a bit more for all of the tech and updates.
Mine is a daily driver, so the additional cost would still keep my at the RHO.
I picked mine up for 80 with 15,000 miles. I think the RHO is going to be a great truck but as far as MPG, there’s not much of a difference.
