RHO range and MPG

I don't want to talk about it . :ROFLMAO:

It was maxed out, and nope, front tires remained firmly planted, I pretty much just stretched the suspension like a light yawn but gave me enough space for my oil erector set.

First time under there, and I was less than thrilled to see the amount of corrosion and rust. It'll be a FULL Day project to work on all that.

You have to much time on your hands if your worried about that rust.
Do yourself a favor move that foam rubber protector up higher on your jack handle before you welt the side of the truck with the handle.

Got MAJOR air today….getting my oil changed at 1k miles 😂

The service manager took it in and out knowing how anal I was after I spoke with my advisor. Love it!

Longest air time. Now you have RHO of the month worthy picture.😃

LOL, it's difficult to tell from that angle but handle was 2' plus from side of truck. pad was in car config and didn't need to move it but good looking out. I'm in AZ so rust isn't a thing I deal with here and worth fixing it and stopping it from progressing.

I thought rust was preferred over paint in Arizona. At least it seamed that way when my wife and I saw a few new housing developments. All the gates fences and sculptures were rusty bare metal . Maybe it was just a Tucson thing. Come to think of it I saw a lot in Sedona also. We kind of liked it.

Lots of rust and turquoise in Sedona and Tucson (though i'm sure they call it patina). It's very much the vibe there. In the valley rust gets you HOA daily fines and tetanus 😉

Check out LPS 3 - corrosion inhibitor. I've used it with great success on projects that couldn't rust. I used a few cans on my truck already.

As a small update to MPG - I reset my fuel economy trip meter. I was able to get 17mph mixed city and freeway today :) I'll be honest though - I tried lol.

In all my years of crawling under trucks I find rust in that same spot on all of them. Even brand new trucks. One of these days I'm going to remember to ask an engineer why they don't coat that part.

That's good to know. I'm in the desert where snow and moisture don't happen, as such rust is not something I regularly encounter.

That's pretty heavy steel and won't rust through unless you dip it in salt water for a decade. I wouldn't worry about it myself. With that said, I would look around a lot at the frame and look for scratches. That's a great place for rust to spread like wildfire. I have a spot on my RHO I plan to fix this summer.

i have a spot on my frame rail near the engine that has rust on it. I went through 4 cans of LPS 3 when I got my truck. It was there when it was delivered to the dealer. I'll sand it down, hit it with some wurth self etching primer and paint it black. I'm with teserdahl - it's a pain.

I bought some frame rust inhibitor you just brush on and was gonna give that a go after a light angle grinding sand down

I'll be honest, the talk about sanding and grinding makes me nervous. The bare metal has a protective coating on it and if you break that, then you could have a lot more problems with rust. I get the idea behind it. But, I'd just wash it down and then apply.

what brand/model are you using? I have a 67 Dart that needs a little more love in that department lol.

I bought a bunch of different stuff, took a sheet of steel out of shop, rubbed it in salt and left some water on it for hour for my test sample. I'm most optimistic about POR15 as it requires almost no prep, but i bought their surface preps too just in case. Rust is a big issue at our FL beachhouse and I'm hoping to learn some stuff in real world testing that I can apply over there. It's silly, but I only have experience with light surface rust where WD-40 and sandpaper has been more than enough

It will take far longer than your life time for that drive shaft flang to rust far enough to be an issue.

Just did 800 miles trip and my ohh my Friday commute through mountain and storm was horrible I had about 40 miles to go through storm and it took 6.5 hours 😳 mpg on first fill up going there 11.1 and return was much more pleasant and got 14.6 mpg.

Not I'm not sure where and how to start cleaning this.

Here’s a question. Where are we with the car washes these days? I’ve heard a lot of pushback on various types over the years. I’ve also talked with some people who think that pushback is really from 2000s car washes with plastic scrubbers that would leave swirl marks.

Can you share what mode(setting, start/stop, etc) you are driving? I averaged 11.3 city/freeway at 400s miles. Me and my wife barely go over 70, lightly hit pedal all the time. Thanks

To everyone, what mode/custom setting is best for smooth ride and for mpg? Any tip is appreciated. Our first truck and in our late twenties. Thank you. 😊
