Weird, now folks call this false advertising but the MPG they touted out of the gate is non issue? Guys simply say its a “heavy truck , what do you expect”. Well I guess Ram determined speed above that is dangerous and screw what we advertizsed. With 4 RHO’s down at two local dealers I think speed is least of owners concern right now.
You have to grasp the possible implications of this development. MPG is a typical gripe of sports vehicles. You have to drive it in economy mode and like a VW Rabbit for a full tank of gas to see what efficiency you can get. I doubt it's as far off from mfg. claim as people think.
Even if it is, an embellished MPG claim is an ENTIRELY different issue from this sneaky, undocumented major change to the vehicle performance in the form of a recall. Hopefully its just modification for non USA vehicles that mistakenly got applied to a few domestic trucks, as others are suggesting in this thread. But if not... that's PANDORA'S BOX. Why this DRASTIC detuning? Why is Stellantis taking 18% performance out of these trucks? What are they trying to hide? What are they trying to avoid?
If it is being quietly rolled out to domestic releases of the truck, I would venture to guess that the problem is not minor or CHEAP TO FIX. If it was a knock sensor and a few hours of man labor, Stellantis would have simply fixed it. But if, for example, it was discovered that the silicone content in the pistons is melting in some trucks under high performance stress... they might do something disgraceful and scandalous to avoid financial loss like this.
Its easy to defeat the 98 MPH electronic limiter with a chip or tune. The problem might SEEM to go away for a while, until you grenade the engine a year from now because of this covered-up problem. Guys are right to be concerned and stressed out.
Hopefully someone knows someone who knows a Stellantis executive or engineer that is willing to come in here and shed light on this problem soon. I'm sure manufacturer watches hobbyist message boards like this, since it's their target market.
If the problem is truly NOTHING, they will be anxious to come in here and communicate with us and clear it up. If we hear nothing... further concern IMO. In this case, no news is BAD NEWS.
