The Great Running Board Dilemma

not the same truck but same idea. I had a gen 1
I’m curious for anyone what has steps but no mudflaps if it’s helping protect the sides much. I’m debating if I need the mudflaps. They seem like they would help a lot but not too sure if I will be okay with the looks. We get a lot of gravel kicked up on the freeways up in Arizona and don’t want the side of my truck to be chipped up.
Raptor with the factory running boards and no mudflaps and they did an excellent job of protecting side steps. And I was NOT nice to that truck. Beat the hell out of it. Steps did me well

been curious about the same ... if my RB20s come in this week ill let you know (no mudflaps) .... we got good snow/muck/ - easy to see whats hitting the body .... being my first "fat ass" truck, the rear wheel fenders are catching more than standard body trucks
Awesome, I should be getting my truck by the end of the month and wanting to order something soon. Did you do with the slim ones?

I just recieved these pictures of the power running boards installed. Love that they are out of the way when not in use.

MD is installing mine currently as well. Those power boards drop low and make it super easy to get in and out of a tall ride like this.

I love that look but want protection from people hitting my doors and rocks.

I worry about that too. I'll leave mine deployed when I park in a spot where that could happen. For rocks I may do flaps or do a little PPF on the wheel wells. The power steps actually come down really far and it's hard to be without once you have them on something like a limited.

while I didnt end up going with them (yet) - my dealer quoted $2500 installed

What did the powered ones run you guys installed?
Currently the only ones that work with the head unit and plug up directly to the harness are the MOPAR steps. The others require magnets/door switches to be installed so those you can't leave down if you want. The MOPAR cost more but it's not like those buying a RHO can't swing a few extra bucks if they want them.

MD is doing them for $2500. I thought about installing them myself and saving some money but from what i gather even if I installed them they still have to program the truck to acknowledge them.

Anyone have the Go Rhino RB20 SLIMS. Im leaning towards this but want to make sure it will protect the doors front dings. I took my steps off my Ram 2500 because I didn't like the look and only took a few days before some punk dented my door at a park.

$2500 seems a tad high
I pretty much agree - the big differences I contemplated ...
- Go with factory integrated Mopar power boards (control of the board from factory Uconnect - not really sure how important this is, but kinda nice to be integrated) - $2500
- Magnet mounted control - Go Rhino, Rough Country, etc (fairly easy self install, look and operate good - no control from UConncect) - $1000-$1500
- After Market off-road boards - $400-$800
as a point of reference - the Off Road Mopar Boards are $1200 when added at time of order .... but $2100 to add and have installed from dealer after the order is placed/delivered ... now this is a bad price, even my dealer said the Mopar power boards are better than standard off road boards at that price.

I've got a set on the shop floor waiting for a truck, that's about as much help as I can be at the moment!

@Clutch23 Saw this video of RB30 slim, which are 5" compared to the 5.5" to 4.5" of the RB20 slim. Was enough for me to order RB20 slim, just need the truck!

Thanks for sharing - I was stuck between the RB20 (And even 30) slim vs standard ... I ended up going with standard after seeing some pics and trying to compare to my existing boards ..... the slim's had me concerned, it seems you might be able to see the mounting brackets more (especially on the under-side of the board) ... really just a personal preference, and I wanted a board that mounted close to the rocker panel, not leaving a visible gap between the board and the truck body. Im 100% sure I over thought the process - hopefully I get the RB20's on today (hammer down FedEx truck)

Out of all of these solutions, I'm still looking for rails that protect rockers from high centering on rocks, and doors from door dings that come in around 50lbs. With the skid plates underneath, I don't see any of these solutions fitting the theme of the truck, but I understand people's intent with the truck (or lack thereof) as well.

That's awesome, looks great and very functional.

Do you happen to have the part number for those?
