Just purchased truck few hours ago and it died while driving on highway

Hey yall.. I picked up my truck a few hours ago and truck has 51 miles.. driving on the highway engine started to shake hard under any acceleration and then 20 seconds later engine died and headlights turned off at 65mph leaving my wife and I stranded on the side of a highway, lucky had a spot to roll into off the side of the road. As soon as engine died something sounded like it was flapping under the hood, like something broke loose. Won’t crank over.

That sucks. Sorry to hear, hope they identify the problem quickly for you.

I hope it’s a simple fix, damn sorry to hear this and how dangerous it was. FYI they (Stelantis) may give you a lifetime warranty. Call and bitch. We had BAD experiences with our brand new Durango, and they gave it to us. Fortunately after they fixed it, trouble free but the assurance was welcomed.

Chris
Who did you call to get that warranty? I would love to get something for this because it’s absurd. If I got stuck with no lights on the highway in the left lane, I most definitely would have been rear ended at 70 mph on a dark truck.

Called customer service. I emailed all the issues and they could see the warranty repairs.

Chris

They didn’t want a lemon law claim imo.

So I should wait until the issues are identified and repaired before calling? Because as of the moment, no one knows the issue.. or do you mean call them and tell them what happen?

This will get their attention.

No, call now.

I have no idea the specifics of this situation but be VERY careful about accepting anything from the manufacturer. A lot of times these come with fine print that makes you ineligible for lemon or for legal proceedings in the future.

Again, no knowledge of the specific situation but this happens all the time in other industries.

Nope I checked. Couldn’t see any physical issues looking under truck and under hood. It’s dark and I just had my phone light… before the truck stopped completely I heard something whipping or slapping under hood. As if a rope or wire caught a tire or belt and flung around under hood.
Sorry man, sucks, this sounds like you ripped the serpentine belt. That would have whipped around under the hood and the truck would die running all on battery until it shuts down.
Hope it was just that and you get it back quickly.

I am definitely considering shipping my truck now. I don’t want to get stranded 10 hours from home.
My truck was actually driven to me. Since I had to do a trade. I did not want to risk it driving myself. 500 miles later my truck arrived with no issues. It's now has over 1000 miles with zero issues. Thank God

Mine just shipped. I'm hoping to be you when I grow up.

With these random battery issues popping up all over the place, I'm wondering if that module behind the uconnect display is causing everyone's issues. Sounds like a bad batch of them may have come thru the factory. I know one person received a service warning for uconnect and could be related to that module as well. That module controls a large portion of the systems in the truck and seems like a possible culprit. I can't remember the actual acronym for the module, but BCM keeps coming to mind. I also found a service advisory for the USB media hub causing power drain. Screenshot attached.
It is the TBM module, behind the screen. It gave me problems with my 22 until the dealership replaced it.

I have mentioned my experience on this in another thread. It definitely drained my battery

Negative. They offer the warranty that we all buy at finance or from other dealers. There is no worry.

Glad to hear some good new, finally!!!

For what it's worth, the TRX had a lot of issues when it first came out. Missing bolts (some of them important), loose fuses (some of them important), etc. The TRX community put together a fairly lengthy post-PDI checklist to head off the problems. Maybe that would be a good idea here as well.

I highly suggest that you and anyone else who's had an issue with their RHO to file a complaint with NHSTA. With enough complaints, they could force RAM to do a stop sell on the RHO until they've fixed the issue.

This worries me, I have 2 kids in car seats. If something like this were to occur in a busy intersection, I'd have seconds to get both of them out of their seats. Granted, this is a one off and hopefully only incident (sorry to say that) but theirs been plenty of others who gone 1,000 plus miles with no issues. What to do......

It’s exactly what needs to happen!

Same here brother, my 5 yr old daughter is in a car seat, this makes every father go immediately into survival mode, that ain’t good for RAM.
