Just purchased truck few hours ago and it died while driving on highway

I'm sure the batteries weren't causing misfires and P0420 cat errors. We want the more serious issues fixed, and resolved. Throwing a new battery in a 86k truck doesn't fix anything.
Really sucks about yours man. Just curious, did you take your truck to the dealership you bought it from?

No all dealership are closed on sundays in Colorado.. so they will only get to it tomorrow. As soon as I know anything I’ll let you guys know.
Hopefully they will give you some info sooner than later. I think we are all dying to see what's going on with it. Hoping something small!

Nope, I stopped by today. They said it started in the morning and died 5 seconds later so they had to tow it in. It was on the lift getting checked out but no information yet.
Im assuming it not something obvious like the serpentine belt broke loose then, and it's a complicated issue perhaps.

SO I HAVE A UPDATE AND ITS NOT A GOOD …

They are working with a stellantis engineer and they found out that the fuel injector stuck open and flooded the motor with fuel causing the engine to HYDROLOCK!. The fix is putting a new motor in but they are saying this isn’t a motor they can just order, it has to be generated for the dealer.. they said they are having a meeting about this with Stellantis on Thursday morning and will have more info about moving forward on Friday.

Anyone with any advice I what I should do or could do… would this hurt the value of my truck? Will the truck now have mismatched vin numbers?

That’s crazy at that point I would almost want them to just buy the truck back.

Wow!! thats insane. Will that show up on the car fax? if so id ask for a new truck. Anyone in there right mind would agree if a brand new truck grenades its motor with no miles they should get a new one lol.

I mean the ink on paper was not even dry yet. I would walk away and get your trade back if possible and buy a different truck. So sad for sure

Yes it will hurt the value of the vehicle. I’m certain my injectors were stuck open causing the cats to melt (they don’t know the why still). I had leverage as my vehicle couldn’t be repaired in the 30 days they had it (lemon law in TX) so it was buy it back, put me in a new one or lemon it. They put me into my original order (coming this week).

They estimate my vehicle to be $65k now.. from the $90k I paid and drove 400 miles.

I've gone through the lemon law process. They just won't buy it back. Usually you sign a document at purchase that all legal issues will go through an arbitrator. The best thing to do is get to know the lemon law in your state. Keep all your records, phone calls, texts, service write ups, and correspondences. Find a lemon law attorney in your area (usually theres a few and thats all they do). You'll have to the let the process play out and hope that your truck meets the definition of a lemon in your state.

I would cause all sorts of hell and give it back. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a new truck having a replaced engine. Sorry you have to deal with that!

Nothing to see here, they say. Just a couple new model issues, they say. No worries, they say. Wow, dude, so sorry you are going through this. Get a new truck or get your trade back or whatever you can to get out from under this one. What a nightmare for you this must be.

Holy crap. Yeah that’s bullshit. I was thinking same thing, having them buy it back and I’ll order a new one.

New RHO for sure. There is a chance other items could have been damaged downstream in the tranny, t-fer case, etc. when that motor hydrolocked. And yes, value always takes a hit when you don't have the matching/original motor. That'll be one of the first things a dealer might check if you were trying to trade it in.

If it were me, I'd certainly be seeking some legal counsel on this. Yes, it may cost you a few bucks. But it'll also let everyone know how serious you are about getting this fixed properly, and without affecting the resale value of your truck so soon.

We had a used BMW that just had the engine replaced and traded it in after. The trade-in on that was not affected with the new engine since it was done through BMW. With this being a new truck maybe it’s different.

if the dealer can expedite an order get a new one
the dealer can usually expedite orders, it is all about relationship with the area manager.

I have a great relationship with the dealer, I’m sure they will take care of me.. they just dropped this bomb shell on me at 5:00 on New Year’s Eve… they really could have waiting until Thursday to tell me the bad news 😂
