RHO range and MPG

I'm about to take about 500 mile trip one way and curious how much improvement will have. My 5.7 hemi would get +2 mpg on this trip. During regular driving it would average around 15.1-15.6.

Just gonna throw this out there , food for thought. Two things i thought of

1) Mpg will likely take a couple thousand miles to normalize with break in.
2) people have vastly different driving styles that contribute greatly. Example: my raptor was rated at 16 mpg EPA rating. I NEVER saw 16 mpg ever. The entire time i owned the truck i got 10-13 mpg average. Other raptor owners averaged 10-12 mpg since they drove in sport mode like a pissed off teenager. Others drive like literal grannies and would get 700 miles out of a tank and definitely hitting close to the EPA rating.

Im thinking the RHO will likely be a similar situation . Guys who drive it hard will get 10-13 mpg and guys who baby it will get 13-16. Only low speed highway driving (65 mph or less) will you see above 15 mpg. Just the nature of the beast. Twin turbo HO motor pushing 550 hp in an 6000 lb truck.

It's pretty funny. This truck has every luxury item and piece of technology you can ask for in a vehicle (if you got level 1), rides like a Cadillac on 35s, is quick as hell (540hp), has a top 10 factory stereo if not better, can perform at a high-level offroad and is arguably the best-looking truck on the market and because it gets 11 mpg instead of 13 mpg, guys complain. Wait until you get to about 2k miles and the engine breaks in. See where you are then, not your ride home. This forum is insane. You can give someone a gold bar, and some people would complain it's too heavy or too shiny. Good luck and God bless.

RHO chads are never gonna look at the MPG

Facts, RHO Chads are not never going to look at the MPG button. LOL. If people wanted MPG they should have bought a prius or tesla. this truck is pure bliss

I think some of the issue is we all pre-ordered without knowing the EPA mpg and many of us assumed it would be close to the EPA mpg estimates posted for the other HO model 15/21. If you are in a state with high fuel costs, tow a lot, or shoestring budget, then the 7-11 mpg is gonna sting. The rest of us knuckleheads have consigned ourselves to smiles per gallon ;)

Totally!!!! These types of trucks i never cared about mpg or any vehicle really. Lifes about smiles per gallon like you said! i think all 5 of my vehicles get under 20 mpg. LOL. Even if you math it out , if you drive 10k miles per year, there is only $500 cost difference in fuel between 15 mpg and 12 mpg. if $500 makes or breaks your year, you shouldnt be in a $80-100k truck. haha.

Agreed with all points, including this one. Back when I ordered, I think the EPA estimate was in the high teens. Have to recalibrate and definitely looking forward to seeing the economy for trucks that are fully broken in.

2 weekends ago I did a 500 mile and then back home another 500 miles. Louisiana to OKC. The self driving is freaking awesome. I wasn't even tired. MPG wise... 12-13 mpg going 65-78mph depending on speed limits. My Hemi got 19/20 mpg on similar trips but I love the RHO so the MPGs are worth it.

Yes it definitely worth it especially comparing I went from trx to 5.7 hemi and now rho. This two trucks made my hemi 5.7 feel slooow. Also when orders opened and they didn't have mpg rating released I think most of us on the forum were expecting around 15 so it's not bad at all especially after this being my 4th ram you expecting it to be worse than EPA rating.

I also used to average about 19 mpg long trips and about 16-17 for my usual daily commutes but then 35s happened together with leveling kit and I'd be lucky to crack 15 mpgs 🤣 yes it looked nice but damn 5.7 was slow for this set up.

yeah I was worried about leaving a V8 but the HO I6 makes the hemi feel like a slug. It got you from A to B and sounded good but when floored it was meh but felt like it was killing itself. I can't imagine going with bigger tires on the 5.7 hemi. The HO rips and feels effortless. It's a blast to drive at all speeds.

I hear what you all are saying guys, but what I’m trying to understand is why I shouldn’t just get a used TRX if the mileage is still 10mpg? Seems excessive for the RHO’s 3L unless I’m missing something.

I average 12.1. Daily commute is 23 miles, mostly highway. Cruise control set at 80. I could get better if I drove 65, but that’s no fun!!!

I have no skin in the game as I already own mine...but what I was hearing a lot of those guys were getting 8 or so MPG. And finding a used one that hasn't been abused somewhat, with the options you want, wasn't a previous repo and has low miles....slim pickings me thinks....Im happy with my choice.

Go with whatever sparks joy. RHO is gonna have the fancy tech and feels more like Landrover Defender (perhaps nicer even) inside and TRX will be used with the older tech, less features n such. I wouldn't choose one or the other over the MPG, but that's me.

From what I saw the TRX guys were getting 9-10 and we're getting 12/13 which is a range increase of 100 mile a tank, nicer ride and better handling due to less weight on the front and a retune of the suspension, nicer tech (self driving/massage seats) and a full factory warranty. You do get a tad quicker truck and the awesome sound with a TRX but you give up a lot too.

Ahh I see. All things tech and equipment being the same if the TRX was updated would you guys still get the RHO?

I would just because of mpg.. call me crazy but when you do 25-30k miles a year it wasn't just worth it for me.

I tell you one thing I noticed or at least big difference to me is that I enjoy driving rho way more than trx and here's why. With rho when driving you just wanna cruise and it's so relaxing. With the trx you always wanted to push it you wanted it to keep whining.

The TRX was like $30k more so unless that price came way down, you're just buying a great sound and a tad more speed. It's also heavier on the front end so handling wasn't as good. And the range is of course worse.
